  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Business Degree Apprentice, I gain exposure to six elective areas of the Corporation and attend University on Friday. My work can change on a weekly basis and I have been involved in some really exciting Corporation initiatives. I also prepare for University by studying throughout the week and watching pre-recorded lectures. I dedicate time to my soft skills studies, developing areas such as my communication and teamwork skills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my first placement, I feel I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the Corporation, its operations, and overall objectives. I have developed my communication skills and now feel confident in interacting with a range of individuals, at different levels of seniority, on a regular basis. Also, my presentation skills have improved as I have had many opportunities to present my work and gather feedback.

  • I thoroughly enjoy my role as Business Degree Apprentice and I am very pleased that I have undertaken this opportunity. • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the programme is well structured and clear. This scheme is a fantastic way of gaining valuable experience within a Global Business whilst also completing a Chartered Business Management Degree. I really like the balance between University and work, as I only attend University on a Friday. This enables me to watch lectures and complete essential reading throughout the week whilst also working.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support network has been fantastic, especially as I have been working virtually for the entire first placement. I meet weekly with my team, line manager, and career manager and also have regular meetings with the Emerging Talent team. My manager has been very supportive and helpful throughout my placement. In addition to this, I was given a buddy who I am able to contact if I have any questions or queries.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • So far, I have covered the 'Principles of Business 1' module and an 'Introduction to Research'. I completed my research project using initiatives within my team which significantly improved my knowledge surrounding these. I also led a presentation on my project to my fellow team members. Additionally, I have just started the 'Principles of Business 2' module which has been very relevant to my placement.
