  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Business Degree Apprentice, currently working within the Brand Marketing and Communications team. My day includes a mix of admin tasks , attending meetings and also self-managed projects that I work on individually that contribute towards the aims of the wider team , I also work alongside more senior team members on more complex projects or events. I am soon due to move placements to HR Shared Services.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since becoming an apprentice I have definitely developed a broad ranged of skills. This has been through both first-hand experience of stations such as presenting within a meeting or meeting team members virtually (due to COVID-19) and also through various training sessions provided by Lloyd's exclusively to emerging talent to help us develop our skills within the workplace and also outside of work on areas such as a wellbeing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme I am on as I feel that it has given me so much opportunity for learning and development. A big benefit of the Lloyd's scheme is the ability to move placements every 6 months as this allows me to experience different areas of the business before choosing what I would like to do in a more permanent role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Lloyd's have a very well structured and organized approach to apprentices and we were given a thorough induction period to help us settle in and learn more about Lloyd's , the people are also very friendly and willing to help with an questions or concerns you may have. However , in my personal experience Pearson College London (partners for the degree element) are not as organized therefore it is important that you are proactive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from various people within the business. I have a very supportive team manger as well as a career manager who is continuous point of call throughout the apprenticeship alongside contacts in HR who are always on hand to answer any concerns.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Pearson College has been slightly challenging however I feel this is mainly due to university work being virtual due to Covid-19. At the college you get an apprentice support mentor who has been very helpful at answering questions and arranging calls for extra support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I really enjoy seeing how some of the methods I learn about at University are put into practice in the workplace , this combination of work and study benefits both sides as working within a corporation makes it easier to understand business principles but also learning about the fundamentals of any business aids my work at Lloyd's as it allows me to have a more rounded view on the aims and objectives of the corporation.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We do have some socials as a apprentice and graduate cohort which are fun and socials within teams vary between departments. I am sure post covid-19 there will be lots more to get involved in.
