  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently learning to use different types of machinery, including lathes and milling machines. Day to day I send time learning the theory behind each process and then work on it practically. I interact daily with my fellow employees, as well as my instructor. I have a weekly meeting with my ADL ( manager) and the other apprentices on my course where we discuss any issues.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning lots of new skills each day which are both practical skills and personal qualities. With Rolls-Royce we are expected to be developing everyday, which can be online courses or learning new skills on machinery. The apprenticeship will provide me with a number of qualifications in different areas.

  • I am thoroughly enjoying my programme with Rolls-Royce. The company culture is fantastic as everyone is extremely positive and treats you with respect. My team are all good to work with and we all get on, which creates a positive working environment. The work load is balanced and enjoyable whilst also being varied, meaning I look forward to going to work everyday.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation has been to a high standard so far. My induction went ahead after late notice and was still planned out very well. I am always aware of what work I need to be doing and when it needs to be, well in advance of deadlines. Meetings often go ahead with my manager, as well as email communication, to let us know of any news or changes.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a high level of support from HR between getting my offer and starting employment, letting my know what was happening and anything I had to do for onboarding. Since I have joined my manager has been in close contact and rounding up any news each week. If I have any issues I know where to go to get them sorted out.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I Do receive support from my training provider, however it is not as in depth as the help from my employer. They send updates if any changes to the schedule has been made, and I know who to contact if I have any problems. My instructors are in regular contact letting us know what work needs to be done, and they give us training on how to complete the work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps me to understand the job I will be doing in the business in much more depth. This allows me to complete my job to a high degree of accuracy and depth. It also helps with skills such as teamwork and being punctual, both of which are key to working successfully.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would highly recommend Rolls Royce due to how well they look after you as an apprentice and make you feel part of the company. They provide lots of support and it is clear where to go if their are any issues you have.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • When applying the key point is to make yourself stand out and to get the assessors to remember you ( for the right reasons). You also need to be prepared when it comes to the assessment days to give you the best chance of setting a good example. Before applying try to gain as many new experiences and take opportunities to make you stand out from other applicants.
