  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at the moment is predominantly administrative - I spend lots of time binding documents, arranging postage and liaising with colleagues to help support them when working from home. I am exposed to a range of different documents and receive directions from individuals across the firm.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Given the amount of requests we deal with on a daily basis, I have learnt how to prioritise my time more effectively and organise my day to ensure I meet all given deadlines. I have also gained more of an understanding as to how law firms work (i.e. how to draft a formal email, how to prepare documents, the processes that occur on a daily basis etc.) We also undertake regular formal training sessions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Each day in my current role is different, so while some days are more focused around training and the development of 'soft skills', others are more involved and allow me to undertake an active role in the development of cases. This variety and constant change of pace makes my job exciting and rewarding. Everyone in my team is friendly, approachable and open to answering any questions I may have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We receive regular updates from our Apprenticeship Manager with regards to our progression and any feedback we have received. From the beginning of the scheme, we have been enrolled in a range of training courses (both legal and not) which continue to take place on a regular basis.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All apprentices are encouraged to schedule weekly catch-up calls with the Apprenticeship Manager to discuss how we're coping with our workload, any issues we may have had, and any areas in which we feel we need more support. Everyone in the team is open to answering any questions I may have and offering guidance if I am unsure what to do. We were also all assigned buddies who continue to offer support where needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The induction information we received from our training provider was useful and comprehensive. Each apprentice is provided with an Apprenticeship Supervisor and a Coach to answer both general and academic queries, but often this support is not readily accessible. This downfall is, however, mitigated by the additional support we receive from our employer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • While much of the legal training provided by the university is not currently applicable due to my role, I use lots of the information provided in the 'soft skills' modules on a daily basis.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The firm offers a range of social activities including sports groups, voluntary schemes and company-wide events. All apprentices are encouraged to join one of a number of social awareness initiatives which regularly host events for everyone in the office.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The quality of work I have been introduced to at such an early stage in my career is unmatched by many other firms. I have received consistently high-quality support from everyone in my team since day one, and am always being presented with new opportunities and chances to develop my skills. Everyone I have met has been friendly and approachable, and wants to know more about my decision to undertake an apprenticeship.
