  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of opening and closing the restaurant, counting stock and placing orders. I have to ensure that all the team are good and well, making sure that they know what there roles consist of each shift by creating a pre-shift brief. My role also consists of ensuring that each shift runs smoothly, by dealing with any customer queries or complaints to make sure that they are dealt with in house rather than having to go to head office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my program I have learnt and developed a number of skills. The main one I would say was learning tips on how to deal with awkward conversations, allowing me to help support the team in anyway I possibly can. Another skill I have developed further is learning about P&L’s, having knowledge on these allows me to have a better insight into the business. A skill I have continuously developed is all to do with the liquor stocks and orders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed completing my apprenticeship program as i already knew how I had to do my job, however the apprenticeship gave me the knowledge behind why I had to do it. This will really help me progress throughout my career. The part of my apprenticeship I enjoyed the most was planning and writing my business project, from finding evidence and creating a SWOT to find something that can help to improve the business I work in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program I completed was very well organised. The structure was put in place from the start so I knew exactly how long each part would take and when it needed to be completed by. This gave me clear time frame of how long it would take for me to complete the apprenticeship and gave me a goal to work towards for each part. This really helped motivate me to get the apprenticeship completed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer really helped me all the way throughout my apprenticeship by offering me help and support at every stage of the program. They helped me in every part by offering me a quiet place to study if needed. They would go through my notes with me to help me understand them if I didn’t and also helped me massively by allowing me to collect any evidence I needed in order to complete my business project

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was excellent all the way throughout my apprenticeship. I would have calls every 4 weeks to ensure that I was on target to complete each section to the time Frame provided. All this was put in place to ensure that I was practiced and ready for my end point assessment. Even though our calls were every 4 weeks they were always at the other end of the phone if I had any problems.

  • Greene King as a company supports the charity Macmillan so every year we have Macmillan May in which all the pubs in Greene king aim to raise as much money as possible for the charity. So each year us a restaurant come up with fundraising ideas we do in house to help raise towards the overall goal. • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Greene King is a massive pub, restaurant and hotel company, that is continuously growing each brand it has. Most pubs now are owned by Greene King so it does make you feel safe in a job working for them. They put the team first by running a lot of incentives for the team that can be won. This really motivates you to work harder and do the job to the best of you ability but also makes you feel part of the team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Working in Greene King isn’t just a part time job that will get you no where in life, there is a lot of progression routes to take, whether it be the kitchen or front of house and by climbing this ladder will give you skills and confidence that can be used in every day life too. The advice will be to do the apprenticeship schemes they put in place for you because who wouldn’t want extra qualifications while still working at a proper wage.
