  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the internal sales desk, daily tasks involve answering phones and email, I also am the internal sales owner of two of the branches biggest accounts and look after them on my own. Due to COVID our job has extended and we now have to serve our trade counter also. This takes up a lot of my day but I am working on managing my time better to get the most out of my day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learned how to manage my time more effectively , recently this has been the most valuable in helping me with the extra workload. I also think I have learned great team management skills which I really hope I can use by stepping up in to assistant manager position if and when it becomes available. I currently do not work as a team leader due to my team on the trade counter being made redundant, and there is already a sales supervisor this could be another route if I did not get the assistant manager position I would like

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed it for different reasons. My group was great and spending time with them was great, it helped me come out oh my shell. I also enjoyed the course on the workshop days as it was a different experience and made you feel valued in the group, it also helped if you had any questions, and the facilitator was very good and funny. I did not enjoy the stress of trying to fit the course in around my job as it was not easy although very rewarding

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have mixed reviews on this, I missed a few workshops due to work commitments and annual leave and then did not get the chance to redo the courses as the new dates did not suit either, I was then still expected to do the work on these workshops that I missed so struggled to get it done correctly, although was helped tremendously by my facilitator and also my mentor was a great help here

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received great support from my manager and the other managers in my work region. I visited a few of the other branches for course work eg my health and safety module was done at BSS newscastle it was great to experience going to different branches something I maybe wouldn’t have gotten to do if I hadn’t done the course. I got a lot of support from my regional management team on the financial segments

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My mentor was always at the other end of the phone so I could always reach him, but not always being able to make it to the support days meant I struggled a lot to get my work done on time, this then meant that I went over my allotted time. The support from the facilitator was there but they could only help to a certain extent and then you had to do the rest for yourself

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the moment I am not using my qualification as due to COVID I am no longer team leader as my colleagues got made redundant, I feel I may have wasted my time at this moment. I would love nothing more than to take over another team although there is no current opportunity to do this. I am part of a team but not a leader as I have a supervisor , I feel in my role there is no room for movement in the branch at the moment

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We did used to have a monthly / bi monthly night out / afternoon lunch with the branch but funding dried up and COVID hit so this is no more
