  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I usually work with the pre-school aged children. When I arrive, I will set up the outdoor provision for the day and I will try to link the provisions to the current topic. Once I have done this, I will look at the next steps for the children that are in that day and discuss with the room leader what children we need to focus on in the activities. We will also discuss what is happening during the day and any children that we may need to work 1 on 1. I will usually lead some off the activities in the day and assist the children when required. We encourage the children to be as independent as possible during snack time, lunch and tea and the rest of the day. If you have had fun doing the activities with the children, this means that they will have had fun

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as I been able to experience the job I wish to work in whilst gaining my qualification. I would recommend an apprenticeship to others for this reason. The work hasn't been as stressful as my previous jobs. I have been able to work with a great team of people and create good friendships. I have also been able to care and create bonds with children, whilst having fun and playing with them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction into the apprenticeship was valuable as I was able to learn how to submit my work. The induction was done with other apprentices, so that we all learned together The training itself was great as I have received lots of support from my assessor. She was understanding towards any problems. I didn't feel worried about the meetings with my assessor as she had built a good relationship with her and I didn't feel stressed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of support from my manager and the rest of the team. My manager ensured I had a day off each week to be able to focus on the work. My team has been so supportive! They have helped me to complete work and create activity plans based on the criteria set. The entire team and my manager have also been very supportive when I started to get anxiety. They have allowed me time to get myself sorted.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Balderton Village Day Nursery to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this company as there is a great team to work with and amazing children to appreciate you. The team are so supportive and nice to work with. We can have a great laugh and keep up our team spirit. The children are amazing as they miss you when you aren't there and ask you why you weren't there. Their parents are so nice and ask you how you are and will freely discuss things with you.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balderton Village Day Nursery?
  • The interview isn't as daunting as you think. You will interact with the children and work with them after the interview. This will allow you to get to know the children and for us to get to know you and how well you interact. The main thing to expect when working with children is that you and the children will get messy and that is fine! This means that they will have had fun. Also, you will have to deal with nappy changing, toilet children and sorting their accidents, and other body fluids.
