  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a TA I support the children's learning by helping them with activities in the classroom, as well as supporting the teacher with preparation for activities as well as observing children's progress. I work with children individually if they struggle with their learning as well as working in the hall during lunchtimes and at the before and after school club.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have extended my first aid knowledge to include epi-pen and administering medication. I have also completed multiple safeguarding courses as well as young carers and prevent training. I have improved my organisation and flexibility by working with all age ranges on a daily basis as well as improving my communication skills to adapt to the age range and ability I am working with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with the children because each day is different with them. I have a good support team around me and feel that I can speak to the staff I work with when I have any issues. I think the senior management team could do more to support staff but overall it is a good environment to work in. I enjoy going into work everyday.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The initial induction was very quick and easy to follow. The initial assessor I had was not very organised and did not provide much support whereas my new assessor is much more organised and responds to messages very quickly - meaning my course is progressing at a better rate. There are regular reviews and the online portfolio is easy to access and use.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The setting provides links in regards to mental health and struggling within work. I have a mentor who checks I am doing well on a regular basis. The staff around me are very supportive and approachable. The senior management team do not always follow up on their proposals or promises but generally they are considerate and approachable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some of the things I have learnt in college and by doing research has helped me better understand what and why I do certain things. It has also helped me understand some processes better and has made me reflect on how I have performed so I can improve. It has made me try to be more creative and organised.
