  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Her role on the current project, that she joined last year in March is: DevOps engineer, and one of her strengths is that she comprehends the Software Development Lifecycle and has the outright understanding of numerous automation tools for developing digital pipelines (CI/ CD pipelines). She works with the developers to produce efficient and cost-effective results. On a day-to-day basis, she leads the DevOps team, which consists of 6 people, split across both onshore and offshore; through scrum sessions held throughout the day, which helps with monitoring continuous progress and teams priorities. Additionally, she is responsible for reporting back to the release managers and accountable for building software releases and testing the new code.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Another very critical task she has owned was the implementation of the DevOps request form, which is now a key project utility used by Accenture, client and other external teams. Not only did she set up this system but she has also driven continuous process improvement, taking her own ideas and suggestions from other members of the project and updating the ticket request system accordingly. She has shown herself to be highly organised, efficient by completing tasks ahead of time, showing a mature ability to engage in team work and adding value such as packaging legacy and newer technology stack applications, to create an automated deployment process which has been setup in such a way that it is now a self-service process.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • She enjoys it that much that she was selected to be a motivational speaker at Gravitas Recruitment Group for an event for Women in tech. Recently she was nominated to be on the panel to answer questions in front of 300+ girls at Google Tech Academy, followed by being one of the winner at a Google hackathon in London. As a front-end developer, she developed a mobile app/game (CatchIt) like Pokémon GO, which awards points for users throwing away litter they come across on the street. These points could then be redeemed for vouchers offered by small local businesses.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support as we are assigned a career counsellor and a buddy who we can speak to about any personal or professional problems depending on how often you catch up with them. I haven't receive any complaints at the moment from any of the apprentices and from personal experience the employer has always supported whether it is application process for an award or work related support at Accenture. Everyone is very helpful!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider is very supportive as we receive 25 hours off whenever we have coursework or need to revise for an exam. This has personally very helped me where I have had lots of deadlines from the client and university deadlines. We often have meetings with the training provider and they make sure that we aren't facing any issues or clashes with the work and they are always there and very supporting about it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is quite related to what I am doing at work and it is currently helping me to develop professionally and giving me hands on experience at client site. There are some modules that aren't related at all but will use that knowledge at my next client site and apply that to the real world opportunities in the future. I am trying to note everything down so it will help me build relationships too.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • She is also a role model for fellow female STEMs which is shown by her profile showcased on the front of Accenture’s Website, along with being invited thrice a month to attend external events to help break the stereotypes associated with apprentices and women in technology. She is part of the football team and organises events at client site. She is also part of the wine club and is making variety of networks to help in the future.
