  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Helping in various compliance jobs in the preparation of tax returns and assisting in advisory pieces such as R&D, capital allowances and Due Diligence reports.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Time management, organisation, critical thinking, delegation, active communication and a lot more. I have mostly developed these skills but what I have learnt is how to operate within a larger company and communicate with my team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it very much, I enjoy being able to apply my studies to benefit clients each day and I enjoy the complexities the work provides. There has also been so much support for both my studies and day to day work.

    9/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is fairly organised but also gives you some flexibility regarding how many exams you want to do at a given time, this allows you to effectively alter the length of your apprenticeship and qualify sooner.

    9/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the team in both my studies and day to day work, I am also always allowed time within work to complete practice papers or anything that Tolley's instruct us should take place within work hours, this kind of stuff is always prioritised and is not pushed to the side. Also having an exam line manager in addition to my own line manager has been a massive help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot, they provide so much material and support that if you just do it all and listen to them there is no reason you shouldn't pass.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I use the knowledge from my studies everyday, both my studies and my work have helped each other equally. It is a massive help in advancing my technical knowledge for all aspects of my job.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a sports day, summer ball and annual team events on top of various team outings/meals, there is also a lot of young professional networking events that I have involved myself in and there is a lot of support for ordinary networking events and talks as you progress.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good company to work for, there is progression, qualifications and support. It is a very training focused firm and is probably one of the better places to start a career given the support you will receive and the focus on your mental well being.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • Understand the areas and skill sets that your role will encompass and draw comparisons to your own life and experiences. Alongside this I would prepare by familiarising yourself with Tax/accountancy/Audit in the news and any recent announcements.
