  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves me working with customers and suppliers making sure they are paid/paying on time. I support other functions such as engineering helping them with their forecasting and financial needs. I do a lot of reporting on sales and margin analysis. At month end I post journals and make reconciliations. The job gives you good exposure to lots of the finance function instead of solely looking at one element of the finance function.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my job I have learnt so much about using excel. To begin with I couldn't even highlight a column whereas now I can use formula to get results I need. I have also learnt skills such as time management and organizational skills. Working in a big company has also given me a lot more responsibility and allowed my decision making process to get better. My communication skills have strengthened as I have to communicate with a variety of people daily.

  • 9b. Why?
  • Cummins is a great business to work for. They are very caring towards their employees and really want the best for them. Everyone I have worked with in the business has been helpful and friendly and ive never felt unable to ask for help. There is a real sense of pride working for Cummins and all the different departments interact through work and extra curricula's. Cummins cares a lot about corporate social responsibility as well which really shows the company's values.
