  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Before lockdown my basic day consisted of a degree lesson and a college lesson where I would do the level 2.I have now finished all college and degree work from home which was helped by constant meetings with teachers over Microsoft teams. Currently, during lock down, in the day I use my work laptop to go into the courses that my work has set up for me to complete to help me when I enter the company. There are different couse some more specific to my role, there is also a reading list for next academic year which I have looked at briefly if I have no more courses for the day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • For the first year of the apprenticship it requires me to do a level 2 course, which I at first didn't understand why I was doing but as the year has gone on I'm much more acquainted with the machines and tools. I have found that the most helpful part of the level 2 is the writing up which allowed me to develop my writing skills that I will need for the business. Such as what is nessacry to put into a report and what is not needed. I have found that my reports are more consise. Doing the degree mathematics for the first year is very similar to what I have done before but found that having the chance to solidify my knowledge was really helpful.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my first year, allthough there were some numbs at the beginning where the college was a little unorganised with lessons and lectures. When we had settled into routine I like the responblity I had, with the degree area and being able to mix with people doing similar things with other companies. I liked that With degree lessons if I had already covered material and was allowed to carry on with out distractions onto other parts of the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the beginning of my first year the college was unorganised d in the fact they didn't have timetables for us or computer logins or email for a couple weeks and we would share computers with those who had logins. The degree side of my couse was better organised and teachers were able to give us a plan for the year and the semester. Once everthing had been sorted out which took a month to be fully organised, everthing continued smoothly for me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have regular checks that go over how we're doing menagly and physically. As well as seeing how far we are in the year and seeing what has been completed compared to what is exspected of me. This was helpful as I could see if my employer ever needed anything from me. I was also able to used these meeting to get help and my apprentice development lead was able to get me tests for extra time which I needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We use smart assessor to upload all of our work for college units which is very helpful as it uses a progress tracker to let us know where we are at. Teachers have been very helpful during lock down and understanding of I needed more time or help due to the situation. One teacher has done some extra lessons with me to help me catch up where I needed. From the college you really had to ask loads about deadlines other help you needed. But help would come even if it was late.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has given me the chance to really hone my math and other essential skills and get to know my colleagues at the same time improving my social skills as well. As I have not yet been into the business due to lock down I can not say about my role. But I am a lot more Confident ident for when I do go into the business later on.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have not ahd time to do any extra curricula activities, I was able to go to the gym for a couple hours every day which is nice. But the college did not have any sports teams that I was interted in, I like hockey, and all other clubs were at other campuses and I wouldnt have time to go there in my lunch break and get back. I k ow that when I go into the business I have access to the AA, an activities club for apprentices l, but I am yet to join.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Fro my exsperiance this year I ahve found it to be a comfortable place to work with lots of help from apprentice development lead. As Rolls Royce is looking for a certain type of person everyone they choose for the role has a good character. It's also really cools to say you work for Rolls Royce.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?
  • Rolls Royce don't just look at grades they look at you as a person and what your interested are. If you don't ahve a passion for engineering and thats the role your applying for you won't get it. What ever you are applying for you have to show that you have passion and enthusiasm about the subject.
