  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I supervise the day to day shift running and corrective coach to improve the restaurant running, I'm also in charge of food cost so thinking about waste, stock rotation and financials of the restaurant. I support the other managers while working towards goals for the hole store. I also do the weekly and monthly inventory counts, this makes sure we aren't losing to much stock and controls the amount being delivered as we need enough but not to much

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have massively built up my confidence as it was a really problem for me, I knew everything but having the confidence to do things was another matter. I've also had to learn about having difficult conversation as my job role demands me deal with issues within the crew and customers, I've learned to lead and make myself heard and learned all the basics to running a successful restaurant. The personal growth has excellent as my confidence has improved in other aspects

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the learning as everyday I have something new going on or a new question to ask, I have to go to uni for 3 weeks in the year which means travelling to Manchester and attending classes, instead of just attending online classes and reading. I really enjoy learning and the development as I don't like sitting still, this is what attracted me to the program at first, now the people and new experience make everyday excellent

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The first year of the program was a level 3 with monthly sessions with my trainer, then uni is over 4 years made up of online learning and week sessions at the uni itself, we have weekly work and 6 assessment a year, handed in online, it's been a learning experience working and studying, balancing work with uni and life, but it is done well and the years structure is set up on a year on year basic

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am supported in the work and in my uni work I have sestions and training. When I'm struggling my manager talks with me and we try to work everything out, I was struggling with getting distracted and she let me work elsewhere to get the best quality uni work I could, I have training when needed or requested as I have to learn alot in a short time but with this help my development is on track

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have issues with dyslexia and the uni have fully funded software and a laptop for me to be able to complete my uni work without to much of a problem, they are available by email anytime, and the uni have assigned us people to be a go between between McDonald's and the uni, this helps when a problem come to light, and gets it sorted quickly so we don't encounter to much of a problem

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Im learning a lot about the running of the restaurant that is done by McDonald's and it give me a better understanding of the industry in stead of just a knowledge of McDonald's, this helps when overcoming issues. Having this qualification means I can be more open minded to business problems and we can then work towards overcoming these issues more successfully than without this knowledge, I find it's helpful in all aspects

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The McDonald's cup for football the store has nights out and days out and managers meals and crew trainer meals these days or evening are alot of fun because you get to know everyone better and get a really sense of team as it can get alittle stale after a while. Having evening meals out is always a nice treat but is also chance to celebrate the teams achievement and have a pat on the back

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • For all the benefits, its seems a no brainier, you get a degree work with a great group of people, make friends and really get a great food in the door for your future. I really enjoy working with a big group of people and think this will benefit me. When I finish my degree apprenticeship I will be well qualified and a leader with a massive bank of experience. Also having no debt is really nice

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Be yourself, show your personality, show you have strengths and how your working on weaknesses. Be confident and calculated, being part of a team and understanding people is a massive part of the job so remember to showcase this, you will have to deal with situations that won't have come up in your life before but being willing to give it your all and make mistakes and learn from them is the best advice i can give
