  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Personal Banker. I'm a frontline colleague who works to assist all customers with their banking needs and requirements. Where possible, I assist customers directly, and if not possible I ensure to pass them to the relevant department who can. I ensure that I do absolutely everything to assist a customer with and beyond their agenda wherever possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Having passed the apprenticeship I have obviously gained my Level 2 in Providing Financial Services, but I deem the on-the-job experience as invaluable to my development, and it will benefit me massively. My customer service skills and knowledge of the banking industry have increased exponentially and help me to deal with a vast range of situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The working environment is brilliant, and I feel a genuine sense of staisfaction knowing I have helped a customer with their agenda, and also knowing I have helped them. Love working with my team and team leader.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Barclays?
  • On a day-to-day basis I am the same as any other adviser or colleague in the business. I am an integral cog in making the business excel, providing an excellent and seamless service to any calling customers. However, the attention and recognition I am afforded is absolutely brilliant. It is great to feel a sense of pride within myself, and from others in the job that I am doing. I jump at the chance to be an advocate of either the business or the apprenticeship as I feel that I am a worthy advocate and well placed to do so.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The whole process has been very straightforward and very direct. I have always had the utmost confidence in my training providers and also my managers. I'm comfortable with approaching them with any internal or external support I need, and I credit this support to my development. It has been first class, especially compared to previous situations where i have felt unable to rely on management or support staff/lecturers.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As mentioned above, i receive a great deal of support and respect. I always feel valued and equal, and the ethic of my support staff is there for all to see. Conversely, I must say the training and support is never over-the-top, and I have plenty of time and opportunity to grow and develop myself.

  • As above, brilliant.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Brilliant, I've never been stretched beyond my means, and when i go onto a full wage, I will be really happy, as it is a significant increase on my already adequate salary. Infinitely better than my previous £100 a week apprenticeship, which was a total struggle.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Whenever an event comes up I am always more than happy to attend and contribute, as the whole programme has meant a great deal to me, and I am more than happy to give whatever I can back and would love opportunities to promote and educate.

  • Overall it is brilliant.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Don't be afraid to show your personality, and take each and every opportunity that comes your way. However, don't wait for those opportunities to come to you; actively seek them out and make an impact.
