  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

    • At the moment I am in my first year, therefore my day to day is attending college lecturers. These include degree modules and level 2 (EAL) modules. The lectures I sit change daily, some hands on some pen to paper. Occasionally I will have to go on site, for various reasons. However, sometimes we get tours etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

    • I was learnt a vast array of new skills, before I started my apprentice I had never carried out any work in a workshop. In college I have used machinery from a pillar drill to a high complicated CNC mill/lathe. In my level 2 modules I was learnt all the basics of engineering, from how to write project plans to building electronic circuits. Everything that I need to work safely and efficiently when I come on site.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

    • i Really enjoy my programme, as I’ve previously said I’ve gained many new skills and being on the programme has just enhanced my love for engineering. Working for such an amazing company has allowed me to take training which allows me to understand the amazing products we make at full.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

    • I believe my programme is very well organised and structured, at this moment we are in very different circumstances than normal and I have still received the full support of the company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

    • The main support which I receive from rolls Royce comes from the ADL’s, they give regular updates and are overall happy to help with anything at all. They allow us to have a connection to the business even though we arnt on site.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

    • I receive a large amount of support, everyone is always willing to go the extra mile and it has shown in the grades myself and my colleagues have achieved. As previously stated, we are in different circumstances and the providers has still given me all I needed and more.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

    • The skills I have gained my from training provider allow me to go onto site with a large amount of basic general knowledge, this will help me be more confident and safer when working.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

    • There are many activities available, however as I am in my first year I do not live in Bristol.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Rolls-Royce to a friend?

    • Yes

  • 9b. Why?

    • Because they take young people and progress them on to become the best engineer they can be. The work that they produce is outstanding and this shows in the care they have for apprentices

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rolls-Royce?

    • Understand the company to the best of your ability, and let your grades and attitude label you as the best of who you are
