  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role as an apprentice I do, cleaning, nappy changing, playing with the children, play plans and prepare food for the children to ensure that they are being well looked after, I ensure the setting is safe and secure for the children. I ensure the children are safe in the setting. When talking to the children’s parents, I make sure they can always trust to leave there children in the setting. If I am unsure on something, I will check the policies and procedures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new things since I started my apprenticeship for example, I have learned to prepare food to a satisfactory degree, I have learned about the EYFS, I’ve learned how to carry and pick up children, I have had my training of safeguarding and first aid, since I have been at the setting, I have gained lots of confidence and I have learnt how to talk to the children’s parents without being nervous

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my apprenticeship and learning lots of new things. I enjoy researching new things that I have to do in my course work. I really enjoy making my own activities and seeing how the children react. I enjoy seeing the children develop and learn. I enjoy interacting with the children of all ages, the staff are very nice and easy to talk to if I have a problem. I like to do creative activities with the children

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My tutor is very organised, she always is on time, my work is very accessible. If I have any problems, my tutor always gets back to me straight away. The boss of my setting is very organised, we have a meeting once a month to discuss my progress. In the setting, everyone knows what they are doing, the procedures and policies are always accessible. The staff always do peer observations to help you improve with activities.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support, I have a hour study everyday, if I get stuck on my course work, the staff will explain to me what I have to do. I have peer observations done on me so I know what I can improve on. The staff are very supportive. If I have any problems, my manager will get in contact with my tutor. My manager supplies everything for planned activities. My manager sets me online courses to improve my knowledge

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor always calls me once a month to talk about the work I have completed and we discuss my next steps. If I have a problem with my work, my tutor will get back to me straight away. My tutor will explain to me in detail what I have to do for my work. If I need more work, I just need to ask her and she will set it for me. My tutor gives me observation I need to do, due to circumstances, the staff in my setting do my observations for me .

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have learnt about what hazards to look for in the setting. I have learnt about dietary requirements of the different children. I have learnt about health and safety requirements in the setting, I have learnt how to: change the children’s nappy, Set age appropriate activities for the children, first aid training, safeguarding training, toileting the children, putting children to bed, knowing how the children learn through play, how to write play plans that are beneficial for the children’s learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the setting, we do cooking activities, we also do lots of dancing. Outside, we do lots of physical activities such as riding bikes, running games, football and obstacle courses. the children really like ring games. For example, ring a ring a roses and the farm. We do activities about different instruments and what they do, the children have a go, we play different songs for the children to listen to, they really enjoy singing.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are very supportive, my tutor will message me back straight away if I need help. My tutor marks my work very quickly so I can get on to the next tasks. My tutor always explains to me what I have to do before she sets the task. I see my tutor or she will call me once a month to see how I’m getting on with my work. My tutor is always communicating with my setting.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to ParagonSkills?
  • If they need any help, they could contact there tutor by email, phone or BUD. They are very easy to work with, if you aren't able to finish your work by a certain time, you can contact your tutor and they will set it for another date.
