  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I’m a hairstylist and I deal with stock ordering. I see clients and provide cut and colouring. Aswell as this I do extensions and conditioning treatments. My role in stock is I order in stock for the salon and follow a budget. I make sure that stock is organised and that there is minimal wastage. I also deal with reps like GHD and order in extras and decide weather new products will benefit us as a salon.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skill as with hairdressing you need to constantly be evolving your knowledge. To provide the best care and experience for your clients. During my apprenticeship and I have developed my existing skills doing the written work and exams it has helped me refresh my knowledge on the technical aspect of hairdressing and the science that goes behind my job. Overall I have developed my skills and knowledge during this course

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program as it separates my weeks up abit and gives me something else to focus on besides my clients and stock. It’s always enjoyable to challenge myself and revisit skills I’ve not used for awhile. Some times it does feel a little tedious as I’ve been working as a hairdresser for some years now and some of the work is level 1 based so it feels abit if a waste of time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is organised and structured. I know when I have my face to face appointments with my tutor. I did struggle at first with the online BUD system but managed to figure out how to navigate it after a couple goes on it. Sometimes I do get confused in when my exams are and what exactly is being asked of me in my online assessments. But my tutors is very on the ball with helping me figure that out.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employers we do training with the more senior member of the team to get a more on the shop floor experience with the skills we have learnt through our course. We have access to laptops and printers for all course work. And we are stuck they are very helpful at giving guidance if our tutor is not available. They also help with getting models in for training if we need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training towards my qualification. I know when my course work is due and What I need to send over. If I am stuck on a module my tutor will break it down for me so I can tackle the questions. They are also very good at working around my schedule at work as I am still a full time working stylist and run a full client base.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In some way it has helped me to provide a better service in my job role mainly by refreshing my knowledge on the basics which really helps. However I have been working at a level 3 before I starting my qualification and in some way I feel I already perform at level 3 standard the work is being given are skills I have already successfully integrated into my day to day work. So it has helped somewhat.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No there are not any extra-curricular like sports teams or anything like that. We do have some company wide competitions to win prices such as tickets to hairdressing awards and photo shoot opportunities. We are very close as a company and are very good friends so we do things outside of work often like party’s and gathering and lunches. We do external training sessions with big names in hairdressing to expand our knowledge and this provided by the company.
