The work is challenging especially time management with a significant amount of reading required to achieve coursework that I feel proud of. I enjoy the "uni experience" but find virtual lectures more of a challenge. Overall the experience has been positive and I have grown as a person and a manager through my studies.
There have been issues with timetables not being available and a lack of information about what is coming next to allow for pre reading but the actual lectures have been well organised and resourced in general. IT within the university can be a challenge for lecturers not used to it but this has always been overcome. The facilities within the Passmore are well suited to apprentices used to working in the real world.
I have received support in terms of time to study and never had pressure to prioritise work over attending lecturers. My line manager is supportive and interested in what I am studying and asking if there is anything he can help with and I have found the network of students within my organisation either currently studying or previously studying to be a great help.
I do not feel there is a great deal of support outside of lecturers from my training provider. There is little information regarding the end point assessment and minimal information regarding the apprenticeship standards that need to be met. I feel that they are concentrating on the academic qualification and not the apprenticeship.
Whilst studying I am gaining a better understanding of why certain things are done in the way they are and am better able to see the bigger picture. My report writing and research to write reports has also improved through practice while writing assignments. Some modules have also encouraged me to think outside the box to find ways to do things and solve challenging issues. Studying has also improved my confidence.
There are training opportunities and an alumni group which provides good networking opportunities. I am not aware of any sports teams or social activities available at work outside of small team socialising when a member is leaving or has something specific to celebrate.
Yes
There is a strong sense of colleague support and there are defiantly opportunities to gain experience and qualifications if you are willing to put the work in.
The Trust values should align to your values and it is important to realise that in order to provide a safe and high quality service to our local community we need to support each other. There is always room to improve and we need to constantly strive to identify ways that we can do this.
