As I’m in my first year, my goal is to become the perfect store assistant. I have to learn everything about being a store assistant So that I can transfer that to my managerial years and set an example. I could be on tills, on the shop floor or even both some days, you never get bored because there is always something to do.
I’m excellent on a till now with my till speed consistently being above 1250+ every shift. My customer service skills have definitely developed, because I see hundreds, if not thousands, of people everyday and interact with a lot of them. I’m also a lot quicker in my movement in general since joining Aldi as you cannot move at a slow pace during any time of the day.
My programme is great and I cannot wait to complete it and rise through the ranks. I have a massive support network within Aldi ranging from store assistants to managers who are always willing to help and guide me. I love that the career progression from this apprenticeship won’t take very long compared to if I was to start as a store assistant.
It’s very well structured within Aldi, all of my managers are aware of my progress so far compared to where I should be. My training was very thorough. In my upcoming years I’ve been told that there is set things that I have to learn to completely qualify, such as possessing the safe etc. which I cannot wait for and sounds very organized!
I receive a massive amount of support from Aldi, all the managers, the area manager are always asking how I’m doing, if anything else can be done to help me or giving me critical feedback.
I’ve only been in contact with Lifetime Training once or twice, I’ve been assigned a new trainer as my previous one (who only spoke to me once) left the business, the new trainer is basically the same, he does the bare minimum and doesn’t seem to care. It’s a good job I have a good support network in store to help me.
It doesn’t - there’s a lot of stuff in the work about retail in general but nothing Aldi specific - some of the stuff does not apply to the work I do whatsoever. It’s quite pointless doing it, and very hard to complete when you work 40+ hour weeks and your shifts alternate so you end up sleeping at odd times.
My team always go out for drinks/meals etc and there is always an invite there for me. A lot of people are getting married and I’ve got 3 weddings to go to just from aldi. We are a very close knit team with respect for one another.
Yes
It cares about its employees first and foremost, it’s a great company to work for. Once you join a store, you’ve got a second family.
Have patience - Although they’re a great company to work for, the recruitment process can be quite lengthy.
