  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working as the link between people and systems i am mainly involved with project work and supporting my business. I support the business by solving issues that i receive via email and phone calls. With regards to projects, I work closely alongside the IS Team, being involved from Design to delivery. A lot of my time is spent testing issues and new implementations, making sure they are fit for purpose and can be released into the wider scope.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel my presentation skills have improved which has proved vital during the pandemic as a lot of meetings are no longer face-to-face. These skills have been transferred when holding online sessions, helping me project in a confident manner. I also developed my already underlining interest in Web Development, having taught myself in high school. Learning the concepts and seeing how much has changed over the years has been really interesting and valuable in my development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme and I am looking forward to starting my second year in September. The skills and confidence I have gained from the programme have been invaluable and definitely make an impact on my day job. I feel like I already had the core skills that we discuss regularly, but being part of this course has helped me build on these and channel them in a positive, mindful way having a great impact.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the my programme is well organised and structured. With a mix of lectures and practical lessons I am able to put what I learn into practise when it is fresh in my mind. I find information has more relevance if I am able to physically use it and it has more of a impact of my understanding. Going forward we will be completing a Unit at a time which will be interesting in the impact this has on my understanding.

  • I feel that my qualification has a really positive impact in helping me perform better in my role. I have worked for my company for over 13 years so I have a vast knowledge of the company which has allowed me to progress within. • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I like to get involved with Charity type events that my employer is very keen to promote. Each year we get to pick a charity to support and throughout the year we create events to build money for the charity. As part of my site I get involved with the organising and taking part of these events. Whether that be bake sales, car washes or sponsoring people to undertake sporting events. I am quite good at the odd poster to generate interest in various events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Marshalls to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a brilliant employer to work for. I have worked for the company for over 14 years starting as an apprentice in one of the sales offices and they have helped me progress through the company now completing a degree apprenticeship, definitely coming full circle. I have developed not only my work skills, but as a person as well. As long as you put the hard work in, this does get noticed and rewarded.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marshalls?
  • I would not worry too much about qualifications as Marshalls are very much about the people. If you have a right attitude and personality, the other stuff can be taught. Always be willing to learn and be positive to change. I find a lot of people that don't progress within the company are fearful to change, when they should embrace it. If you view change as scary it can consume you can have a negative impact on those around you.
