  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To work the deliveries that come in daily and make sure the store is presentable. To make the customers experience as smooth as possible so that they leave the store satisfied. Learn and be aware of things my colleagues are doing so when I come to learning the management side of things I will be able to do that.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to fit into a team that works very well together and all get along - this has shown me how important teamwork really is. Working here has made me aware of what it is like to be in a fast paced environment as everything is constantly on the go and the demand is always there meaning the work must always be done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my job as I know I’m getting a qualification at the end of it. I know that I have and will learn new, transferable skills in this role and that’s why I picked an apprenticeship over college/university. I find it much easier and rewarding learning things on the job and knowing I’m getting things right.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I like the structure of my apprenticeship. My trainer comes to see me roughly every four weeks to go over the theory side of things and to check in on how I’m doing in the job. This, for me, is just the right amount as it gives me time to learn new things and have new experiences to talk about with my trainer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All my managers at Aldi have given me all the support I’ve needed and more so far. I feel like I can ask any questions without feeling stupid and the fact that they have asked me to start my management training early shows that it is in their interest for me to progress which is reassuring to me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a good level of support from my training provider. Whenever we have a visit it is an in depth one where I can go over anything I don’t understand or want to repeat. As well as this, I’m always told that if I have any questions or queries between visits that I can email my trainer no problem and he has always replied to me within 24 hours.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I progress I think my qualification will allow me to acquire the knowledge and skills that will put me that one step ahead of others. However being only eight months in I feel that everything I’ve gone over so far for the most part has just put in concrete what I already knew. However when it comes to year 2/3 my qualification will be a massive advantage to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities such as fundraisers/events through the app and the company in general however nothing specific to my store that I’m aware of.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The store that I work at has really given the boost I needed. I left school not knowing what I would do and since I joined Aldi I have moved away from home and living independently. There is lots of opportunities to progress through the company and if the work is put in you will get that back. Everyone at my store was so welcoming and it is a great team to be a part of.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • It is hard work - if you put in hard work there could be chance for progression. Don’t be discouraged if you get something wrong or do something bad in the first few weeks. Always be willing to learn - there is so much you can learn from just doing your daily job.
