  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working within two teams (Transition Management and Supplier Management). Within Transition Management I manage the change requests for our IT infrastructure in the UK alongside many other tasks/jobs that vary daily; such as creating sites within our system. Within Supplier Management I work mainly on projects that are planned for this year; sometimes project managing and other times supporting the team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed a lot of internal training courses, all of which have increased my skills and knowledge on a variety of topics. My role uses Microsoft Excel a lot, so I have completed a lot of online training for Excel; as well as learning a lot through my daily activities. I have learnt a lot about how corporate companies work and how to function as a member of such a large company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme thus far; the work i do is varied and has given me great exposure to the business. I am currently working in two very welcoming/friendly teams who have helped me develop and supported my progress on my course so far. The company culture is great, I feel proud to work for DHL and I feel supported by all parts of the company; my expectations have definitely been met.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme had a great induction which really helped me to understand what the next few years would entail. There is support from all areas of the business; not just the apprenticeship team who largely support myself as an apprentice. My allocated study time is always given. I work closely with my line manager and I also have a mentor in another area of the business. The programme is well organised, it could be more structured but with a fast moving company this is difficult.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I work closely with my line manager, who is very supportive of the programme and my studies; so I always have support there. I did receive support from the HR team but recent changes within the team has limited this. My mentor is very supportive and happy to help when she can. I feel very comfortable that I have a good support network that I can always get in touch with for any query; especially the apprenticeship team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Open University have been supportive throughout the whole of my programme so far. I feel comfortable that I can contact both of my tutors at any given time about any issues/queries and they will help/support me. I have regular meetings/catch ups and with my practice tutor and also receive regular updates via email to ensure everything is running smoothly and I am comfortable with the current modules. Overall I feel very supported and comfortable with my studies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My course/qualification is very aligned with what I do in my role at DHL. A lot of the theory can be applied in a variety of scenarios, allowing me to look at my work with a new perspective; which I have found very helpful in increasing my capabilities as an employee. There is scope in the course to tailor the modules and work to your everyday role and tasks, making theory application much easier.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of voluntary schemes run by the company which everyone can get involved with; these vary from running workshops in schools with our GoTeach programme to planting trees with our GoGreen scheme. There are internal networking events that are organised and opportunities to take part in various events. There aren't many social events/company activities that I have come across yet in my team/division but this may change in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a company with endless opportunities and room for growth; it is a place where i can see me following a structured career path that will be fully supported by various teams and colleagues. There is a great culture throughout the company and the ability to work anywhere in a variety of roles; it is a fast paced working environment which makes even the daily tasks more interesting.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • When initially applying, make sure to follow all the steps correctly and to include a well written, concise CV. Research DHL and understand it's basic values and missions; you want to know the company you are trying to work for as this will help with your interview. For the interviews, be as relaxed as you can be so you show off your best self; have examples/evidence in your head that you can use in the interviews to show skills. Enjoy it - the onboarding process can be enjoyable if you relax and take one step at a time, it's a good experience!
