  • Work 4 days a week and study on the 5th day. Take part in important business meetings and join projects which help move the business forward in the most innovative and effective way.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are many skills to be learnt when on a degree apprenticeship through both the practical experiences and theoretical knowledge. Confidence is a big, noticeable change as you become more comfortable with the surroundings and the responsibilities you have but also within yourself to think yes I can do this or I know this, let’s put some ideas across to the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Like anything in life, they have their ups and downs however I believe I’ve experienced a lot more ups over the course of this apprenticeship. Meeting new people and creating professional relationships make it more enjoyable and easier to get through each day as well as using their priceless knowledge in helping you understand more about the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • To begin with, there was a clear and obvious development plan in place which was easy to understand and we set targets for each checkpoint/objective. However, due to many differing circumstances this has had to change a few times so the structure has in-fact collapsed on occasion. Despite this, measures have been put in place to ensure we are still getting the correct training required even if our path has altered slightly along the way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You’ve got to take into consideration and appreciate how busy people are in the business so you are not always going to receive the full support needed so at times you’ve got to just crack on with the work you have. Most of the time however, the support is there for you and they are happy to help in what ever way possible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Open University is a well structured university with many methods in place to support you through your studies. For example, I have two modules per year to work on which consists of a theory module and a practice module and for each I have a respective tutor. By doing this, I have full support and attention from the different tutors but it also means we won’t get too confused as to what work I am completing as one is specified to a module. There are also many other techniques and resources in place from the university to support you as much as they can through my studies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through my training provider, I am learning many theoretical ideas and knowledge of business management that is useful when putting into practice at my work place. Understanding customer demands and how to manage people are arguably two of the most important parts of business so by understanding the theory behind it and seeing it in practice at my workplace does enhance my grasp of how it works and how to be more effective in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are training opportunities for you to attend and sporadic networking events however, I believe there isn’t enough networking events held for us apprentices. Here I mean meeting up with fellow apprentices to discuss our experiences and/or opportunities to meet with the wider business to see and understand more about our business and what opportunities there are out there for progression in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a good company to work for with many different pathways for progression. The staff/employees are so welcoming too with many opportunities to develop good working relations with. DHL are also very keep on progressing their employees by offering free training days and keeping them up with their most up to date ways of managing and operating as a business.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • Just apply and let the rest do the talking. There’s only so much you can read/believe when considering applying to a business but from my experience, it has been great. A tip I would give however is be prepared to put in hard work and stay organised. DHL are a huge, well respected business so to maintain that reputation they need to employ only the best so show your commitment and passion to exceed expectations and you will feel the benefits after.
