  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being on the 3rd Floor in the Hamper and Customer Ordering Department at Fortnum & Mason, I am the first point of contact for our customers’ enquiries (such as executing refunds and exchanges). Organising timely delivery of goods (UK and Worldwide) using Office D365 and by liaising directly with the Warehouse. I also help our customers to create their own hamper and packing them nicely. Finally, I manage the weekly due diligence by checking all the hampers stocked in Piccadilly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed my skills of working under pressure, as I started working at Fortnum's during Christmas. I also learned to deal with difficult/ high-end customers. I certainly developed my client services and problem solving skills. For the moment I did not really learn anything new or improved any new skills with my Apprenticeship as I am still at the beginning and most of the things I have learned until now were part of my Degree.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy it and I found it very interesting. However, I currently have only had to work on subjects that I studied during my degree so I did not really learn anything new. As I started my apprenticeship during the lock-down, I only met my tutor online which was sometimes a bit tricky to be sure if I was looking at the right website page as he was. Otherwise, my tutor is really helpful and kind.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I sometimes was a bit lost on Moodle, I feel like the interface is not that intuitive. I would have preferred if the tasks, the helps and links were not all together in the same website page. I think that Moodle could be a bit more structure and organised. Otherwise, I feel like the apprenticeship is well organised, you go through each module, step by step and my tutor is very helpful.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As I am still at the Begining of my Apprenticeship, I still haven't really needed any help from my employer. However, I know that my employer's Learning and Development contact is very helpful and reactive. I am sure that if I need and support or help towards my apprenticeship in the future I will have it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As I am still at the beginning of my apprenticeship, I did not have any qualifications yet. However, I have had to send a few tasks to him and his feedback were always very helpful. He helped me look at my work from a different angle. I really appreciate his advice.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • From time to time we can register to be part of a meeting with the CEO. During which they ask for our advice and want to know our point of view of what could be improved in both the shop or staff welfare. Apart from that, we have the annual staff party in January.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fortnum & Mason to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I really appreciate the opportunity to do an apprenticeship. Even though it is quite a lot of work and time, I believe that it really is a chance. It is always good to learn something new and it is really great to be able to do that at work and to improve your work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fortnum & Mason?
  • Take the time, do not rush into your tasks. Be prepared to always explaining your choices, who you are talking to and why you are making these decisions. Plus, always keep that in mind while doing your tasks, it will really help you. Finally, think of it as an incredible opportunity instead of another annoying homework you have to do.
