  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • One a day to day basis I work in a small team. There are some weekly routine tasks that have to be completed. We otherwise look at meeting internal customer requirements by designing and implementing customer reports. Data governance is very important and we usually collect data daily. We interact with lots of functions within the business daily, which is also a good opportunity for an apprentice.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • All the skills that I have learned have come from joining DHL as well as studying for a degree at the same time. When starting the apprenticeship, there are so many skills and learning opportunities that become available to you. The most important being managing myself and my time. There are lots of training opportunities through My Talent World which are enjoyable both online and face to face.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme, however, I would like there to be more structure, perhaps development plans. I enjoy the ability to meet new people and I also enjoy meeting all of the apprentices and others on development programmes during networking days. My team are very nice also. The culture is good however I would enjoy seeing more initiatives such as those relating to diversity.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is some structure, however, placements are typically decided on an individual basis. Apprentices are not provided with mentors however are encouraged to find their own.The structure is not similar to the graduate programme where they are provided with placements, however it provides apprentices with the opportunity to mould their own path, which I personally prefer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support comes from various angles, however, this definitely depends on the line manager. My line manager is very supportive of what I do and importantly understand the implications that I sometimes face. I think it would be a good opportunity to educate others in the business of what the degree apprenticeship is and what is expected of apprentices

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Open University is excellent at supporting apprentices. My experience has been very positive. Academic and practise tutors are always very responsive and work with learners to achieve their goals. There is opportunities to attend day schools and call with is a good opportunity to talk to other students. I enjoy the work that they set, and it always set out in an understandable format. The workload is high, but not unmanageable

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It assists greatly in what I am doing in my job. The work-based learning element to the degree encourages apprentices to investigate the business and apply their learning to real-life scenarios. It is really interesting to understand why some scenarios occur based on concepts and theories. It also pushes learning to perhaps experience situations that they wouldn't otherwise in their day to day role

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are very few extracurricular activities, other than those held by the Emerging Talent Team. I would like the opportunity to attend other events relating to the business, to see a different aspect of what we do. Free time is fairly limited when you are doing a degree so it is important to fill the time with things I enjoy. I would like to see more volunteer opportunities as part of the work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The opportunity to gain a degree and experience at the same time as proven really important to career progression. This only really applies to those wanting a degree in Business, however, the Graduate programmes are equally as good. The opportunities at DHL are brilliant, as we provide so many different services to so many customers.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • It's really important to be yourself when you apply. Always try and push yourself however not artificially as people can tell, especially at assessment days. It is okay to get the answer wrong, as often employers know that you won't always get the right answer, but as long as you justify how you got there and analysed the situation, that is the important thing.
