  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am on the Digital and Assessment team at Pearson. As a team we are tasked with bringing new technologies to the education market and assisting other teams with there implementation. I work with suppliers and customers to run trials and develop new products. I also work with other internal teams to implement these new products across the wider business

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am always learning new skills as this is a fast-changing market. I receive training in new products and cultivate skills around new product development, putting business cases together and collaborating with other teams. I have developed softer skills including presentation, cooperation, creativity and adaptability. Working with suppliers and customers has given me the opportunity to develop skills that allow me to cultivate relationships.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The employment aspect fo the programme has been immensly enjoyable. The company culture at Pearson is excellent and I really enjoy being a part of my team. The beginning of the programme at LDN was not quite what I was expecting (it was a very basic introduction to the publishing industry spread out over 4 months), but LDN has acted very well in providing a more stimulating programme since then. They are a company that is clearly determined to deliver a very high standard of apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is the first apprenticeship programme of its kind. Bearing that in mind, I have been impressed with the organisation of the modules and teaching generally. Pearson has been extremely proactive in providing the apprentices with enough time to complete project work, and the responsibility to develop relevant skills very quickly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Personally there has been a huge amount of support from my employer. From management and mentorship to general career support and personal/professional development, there is a great deal on offer. Pearson has a development culture, and the development of its employees both professionally and personally is treated with great importance throughout the company.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again considering this is the first apprenticeship of its kind, I have been impressed with the amount of support on offer from LDN. Because it is a new apprenticeship, the structure and assessment of the modules has changed over the past few months, understandably. This has meant that our cohort has perhaps needed more administrative and general support than others. This has been given.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My role is in a very specific field of the publishing industry, so there isn't a great deal of overlap in terms of knowledge that helps me in my role. However, gaining a broad understanding of the publishing industry and developing skills like presentation and collaboration have been invaluable to my role

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extracurricular activities at Pearson: Quizzes Parties Yoga classes Sport Community organisations

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pearson plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been a valuable experience for many reasons. I have laerend a great deal about the industry and about how my role fits into the wider picture. It has also proved incredibly valuable for networking events and getting to know other areas of the industry

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson plc?
  • It's the type of thing where you get out exactly as much as you put in, so give 100% and you will find ample opportunity for development.
