  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily role involves writing briefs for upcoming content, liaising with key stakeholders, commissioners and our creative team to achieve marketing trails. Sitting in on meetings for larger campaigns to gain wider knowledge of the marketing process. I also help set up marketing assets for campaigns such as speaking to our internal newsletter team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become better at creative thinking when watching trails and have gained a better understanding of what works best for specific marketing assets. I have also gained a lot more confidence and knowledge in sharing my ideas and thoughts to the wider team. I have developed my writing skills as well through writing marketing briefs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program and highly recommend it. I have gained much more confidence within the work place and within my own abilities. A lot of what I learn through my uni degree I also learn at work so they compliment each other well and I think that the experience you gain from a degree apprenticeship is so valuable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find my work to be very well organised and structured with frequent catch ups with my manager who is also very understanding of the work load I have from uni. The only downfall is that we do not have many face to face contact hours with my uni so that side of the programme sometimes can get a bit confusing and overwhelming at times.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is highly supportive, my manager is very understanding of academic commitments and always checks that I don't have too much on my plate. My team is happy to let me get involved with as many things as I want but also understand when I need extra time to focus on studies.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As my uni course is distant learning, my cohort only has face to face real life sessions about once a term. Although we can schedule in calls with our learning providers I don't feel these are as useful as face to face contact, this is something I would like my support and time with as I feel full time uni students have much more access to their tutors.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has helped me have a wider understanding of marketing terminology and theories that I did not know when I first started my job role. I also feel my writing and research skills have improved. However, I feel the qualification could be more directly relatable by studying specific campaigns as that is something that would be more useful in my job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Work has given me great opportunities for wider learning, I have had the chance to attend a press launch, sit it on a live radio show and take part in creative professional work shops. I have also gotten close to the other apprentices and members of my team and have enjoyed team away days.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have learnt so much in a short space of time and have been given so many opportunities and experiences that I would have never gotten if I was a full time uni student. I also have grown massively in confidence and have learnt how to work with people who I may have not normally crossed paths with but have now formed strong rapport with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Be yourself and try and be confident, companies want to hire people who can work well in a team and are willing to put themselves out there to try new experience and gain new skills. There is no such thing as a stupid question, these programmes are all about learning and developing so don't be worried to ask if you don't understand something!
