  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Earning my degree whilst I work. (BA Hons) Attended several internal training courses such as those on supply chain skills, sales process, customer experience, contracting, equality and diversity, environment, trade unions, project management, change management, management, excel training, sales training, presenting with impact (+more would you believe?) Lots of skills (too many to list), but if I had to pick one ... it would be my increased confidence! :)

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Culture in the organisation is amazing, I have a great supportive team and anybody in the business will help support. Graduate and apprentice programme are fully supported by the most senior management in our business and have had the opportunity to meet all of our board members who have been genuinely interested my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • DHLs structure of the programme is fantastic, 1/5 days a week I do uni work and I am supported by my team to succeed during this. However, the style and structure of the open university and quite complicated and involves duplicating a lot of work which is not great when I don't have much time available.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager(s) have been fantastic and supportive of my development and growth, if I asked to spend a few weeks in a different part of our business to learn new skills they would make this happen. I also feel trusted, and not just an admin person (like most apprentices feel!).

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I meet with my tutor once a quarter (which is not great), the online lectures are not the best either. However, as I am a self starter this is not problem as I am learning everything my self. If I needed to contact my tutor it would be no problem and they would get back to me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The skills have been useful, however my job has opened all of these doors already... it is good to have the theory and knowledge support the work i am doing though. Its more a case of theory supports practice rather than putting the theory into practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are are always company events and lots of charity events to get involved in such as bake offs, fun-runs, teaching at a local school etc. For example I supported a sports day one hot summers day and we raised over £1200 - awesome! :) Most of these are local too..

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Huge organisation with a great culture, fully supportive management and senior management. So many opportunities within the company to progress after I finish my apprenticeship. Great benefits (training, salary, holiday, pension, charity involvement). Its also an industry that is not subject to failure, the company is growing and you want to be apart of that journey!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • Understand the company and different divisions (e.g supply chain vs freight vs express). Understand why you want to work in this company, what is it that makes you want to work here - do you want to be apart of the growing success? Be open to working in different areas of the business because there are so many
