  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes reviewing existing and creating new digital ways of working for the on-site and office based teams. This can range from reengineering a paper based form and turning it into an sutomated digital survey to creating a new dashboard so that teams can gain greater insight into the data they produce daily. The roles sits between a large number of projects which requires you to be able to interact with people of variying technological skill. Which can prove useful with ensuring your solution you come up with is the right one

  • The skills I've picked up and improved during this course have been great my coding skills using Python, SQL and my understanding of GIT have been really helpful with my day to day job. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The progreamme is great it covers a very wide area of subjects around the Data science topic. It's really usful to be able to connect with other likeminded specialists but with diffrent day to day roles. Skanska really propoted the course initally and has ensured that I and others taking the course have been fully supported during the inital kick off.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initally the course had a great introduction as there was so much to take in and diffrent people wanted to look at diffrent topics first. There was a large gap between the induction and the first meeting which lead myself and others to strugle a little with finding what the sturcute to the course was, this problem however after a few meetings with the course mentor was settled and between all of us on the course we now feel it has a more structured approach.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the outset Skanska went out of it's way to ensure that we had full access to everything we needed to sucesfully complete the course. This ranged from ensuring we had all the softwares installed and supported on our laptops to having access to the central IT experts in the Data Analyitics team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Whitehat have been great especally during lockdown at altering there apporach to running the course. Normally there would be a large number of group meetings but this has now moved into a team Zoom call once a month. The Trainer [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been amazing at ensuring that I can bounce any ideas and concepts I'm struggling with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is great as it helps me to get a clearer understanding around the subject of Data Science. This in turn leads into my engineering role really well and aids in my data design when I'm reviewing exciting new projects. I also have been able to gain a larger understanding of how systems are built.

  • Skanska has a vast array of social clubs as the company is so large that it covers the vast majority of the UK. These range from local project nights out to fitness classes run by work teams. There are also a number of networking events that the company joins and runs to ensure that we all manage to engage with others working in similar roles.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Skanska to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a great company to work for as even though they are a global buisness they really show that they still care about you and that you're not just a number in a list. The comapnys commitment to keeping you safe whether your on site or in an office is great, along with the company strong ethical code that they stick too. Also there commitment to innovations in both a digital and environmental perspective are great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
  • Just be open and honest about what you are looking to achive from your role and where you are looking to take your career. There are so many oppertunitys to take and some that you might not even realise you wanted. The onboarding process is great and you'll get giving alot of information but just remeber that everyone you meet on the team has been through a similar experience so if in dought just ask.
