  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Manangement of the digital delivery of construction projects, defining standards and processes, ensuring these are adopted and followed by all the stakeholders. These include the production of Building Information Models, the mangement of Site Operations through digital tools and the production and validation of information to be used across all stages of a project lifecycle.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Even though still at the early stages of the course, I have initially deepened my knowledge of traditional tools (e.g. Excel) discovering more advanced functions. I am now learning new ways of accessing, storing and managing data. Other topics will aid automation of repetitive tasks i have to undertake on a regular basis in my job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The remote delivery, due to the social distancing measures we are called to respect in 2020, has certainly impacted the course. However, the lectures have been well organised on videoconferences online, where the cohort manages to bind as a group. All lectures have run smoothly so far and everyone has been collaborative and supportive. The coach is friendly and prepared and the lecture are enjoyable and interactive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • A plan is in place, however it has not been fully disclosed. It would be good to have a more precise schedule to be aware of which topics we will go through first, to focus and optimise self learnig, which is a large portion of the apprenticeship. As part of the self learning, it would be good to have more content specifically developed for the programme, rather than suggested resources that can be found online for free.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Ther have not been many occasions to engage with the employer, in terms of turning the new skills into practice or identifying new areas or tasks i could be involved in, so far. The initial support and clarifications from HR and Learning and Develoment team were very helpful, and we have been provided with all the relevant technologies and software to successfully attend the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The programme includes regular 1-2-1 sessions with the coach to receive tailored support. The plan includes Portfolio Reviews and exam mock-up's which I am sure will be key to face the exams and achieve the qualifications. Having assigned an accountability partner to all apprentices allows to have a point of contact for further discussion, exchange experiences and thoughts.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • By the ned of the programme, I will definitely perform my job with increased efficiency and automation. Manipulating and analysing large datasets with traditional tools is not effective, and is the reason why I decide to enrol in this programme. The course is providing me with new skills to improve my efficiency, avoid rework, enabling automation. It will also open doors to more strategic tasks, hence roles, to progress my career.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Every year activities such as football tournaments (for all genders), charity events, women networking events are organised. Some of them are on annual basis, others can happen several times in the year. Skanska regularly organises different disciplines Forums to enhance discussion, knowledge sharing and also socialisation with lunches and post event socialisation. All staff conferences are also organised, especially in Christmas time, to provide an update on the business performance and socialise outside of the office.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Skanska to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Skanska has always supported my professional growth and allowed me to focus on areas I am more interested in. The company truly believes in learning and development as an opportunity to upskill and at the same time retain the staff. Despite being a large company, the hierarchy is not perceived as a mean to divide people on seniority or levels, but as a structure to rely on. Progress is very possible and based on meritocracy.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
  • Skanska has very strong values, on which most internal policies and decisions are based on. A good candidate for Skanska should share similar values and demonstrate them in their daily job and life. It is also a must to be passionate about your job and show your enthusiasm. There is no need to be afraid of speaking up and express your ideas, as they will be heard and not disregarde.
