  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I worked in emergency breakdown so I took calls from members and reported their breakdown on the computer where it would then generate an ETA and I would provide the member with this and then the job would be sent to service delivery. I worked with scripting and computers daily.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes, I came straight from school into the working environment and this really prepared me for what life would really be like and made me grow up very quickly. I have learnt speaking and listening skills and I am a lot more confident than I used to be. I have learnt that it is okay to be wrong and to ask for help.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I did enjoy the apprenticeship programme and it felt very good to get out of school straight into work as I got to earn my own money and then progress in the business aswell, it meant a lot to me that we got our days training day to ensure our course would be complete aswell as our apprenticeship as a whole.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say it was well structured until our assessor left and then we were left in the dark as to what work we were meant to be doing next and what the next steps would be in our apprenticeship, I think it was important that they got us another assessor as soon as they could to ensure we had the support there when we needed it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • the employer gave us a lot of support and ensured we had the necessary time to complete coursework at the same time as doing the job, although we went for a while with no assessor we still had our managers who did all the could to help even though they didn't need to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • up until we had a new assessor the support was not the greatest as I personally didn't know where to turn when I needed help as we no longer had an assessor, when we were given another assessor he couldn't have supported us more in our qualification and made sure we knew what was going to happen next and what we were meant to be completing in set time frames.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't feel like the qualification made me perform any better as I got a permanent job role before passing my qualification, I think having the chance to do the apprenticeship only really benefitted me as I was working more than doing college and apprenticeship work. I feel as though I would have been in the same place I am today without the qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes, our work often put on parties and gatherings for either small groups of us with just our managers and teams and also organise big parties such as the Christmas party where all of our shift pattern are invited. I also went to the national apprenticeship awards which was amazing and very rewarding to see.

  • 9a. Would you recommend The AA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • because you get a lot of support and help whenever you need it and I never feel alone when I am at work, you form great relationships with other colleagues and managers and it starts to feel like a second home in which I am comfortable enough to ask for help or someone to speak to when I need it

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • I would say definitely expect the unexpected as I had no idea what I was walking into when I started this job, it is very fast paced and you have to learn and pick up new things quickly, I would say it is a very nice and friendly place to work.
