  • I work within the Rail team in Manchester, more specifically the Permanent Way team. My role on a day-to-day basis consists of creating alignments on BRT, CAD work and undertaking gauging analysis.

  • I have developed my CAD, BRT, ClearRoute2 (gauging), excel and report writing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I greatly enjoy the working environment, the people I work with are great and we have a great culture within the office. However, I do not particularly enjoy my college course as the college are extremely un-organised.

  • From a work perspective my programme is very organised and I have the help and support that I need. The college side of the programme is poor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Help and support from my employer is always there if I need it. My line managers are regularly in contact with me to ask me how things are going.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have meetings with my training provider every 6-8 weeks to discuss progress. The help and advice that I receive is very useful but sometimes it can be frustrating as I do not feel that I am trusted to carry out the work.

  • The NVQ has been key in developing my report writing skills and it is relevant to work.
