  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes liaising with our client to deliver effective marketing campaigns that achieve their stretching targets. I spend my time overseeing creative projects, working alongside an agency and analysing data to see how advertisements have performed, ensuring cost per lead is efficient and our target markets are still relevant.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Indeed - I have learnt and developed many skills during my apprenticeship. Studying a degree means that I have developed my analysis and communication skills by completing challenging coursework and presenting my work in formal assessments. These skills have been further developed in my role at work too by analysing our marketing performance. A skill I have learnt is time management as managing a full-time degree and a full-time role at the same time is challenging at times, but you have to create a healthy work life balance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme and am certain that I made the right choice by applying for an apprenticeship. I have met so many other driven individuals who have been great to study alongside and have formed a key part in my professional network. There has always been something new to tackle or achieve so I've always had a challenge to work towards, keeping my apprenticeship exciting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has a clear structure which was outlined in my first week and refreshed on a quarterly basis. I think this was really important in making my experience seamless. For my 20% off the job training (which for me is studying at university for my degree), it is always scheduled on a Friday so that from the start of the programme, the expectation was set that I need to be out of the office that day for the next 3.5 years. This was really helpful for the team I work in as there's no confusion on when I should or shouldn't be working and they are used to me being away to focus on my learning 1 day a week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At Pearson, there's a dedicated team to support apprentices which I found really valuable for my career development. When I was unsure on my next steps, the team encouraged me to apply for a promotion during my apprenticeship which filled me with a lot of confidence to build my career while still learning. Having a support team cheering you on throughout the programme has been really motivating for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Pearson promise to give apprentices an additional 2 hours per week to work on their studies. As a Degree Apprentice, I work full-time so I only have the weekends and evenings to study so having 2 extra hours to study during my workday (once a week) was extremely beneficial - especially during assessment periods as I could put more time into my coursework.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My degree has significantly developed my analytical and communication skills so the marketing reports I produce are at a much higher quality than when I first started my role. Having the confidence to present (presentations are a common assessment method at my provider) has been really important as I am now able to clearly present my thoughts and ideas to clients and agencies that I work with.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our team often host social activities to meet with colleagues outside of work and get to know each other better. There are societies that hold professional networking events too so there's an opportunity to get involved with that too. As apprentices, we meet regularly at a Time-To-Talk cafe which is a really informal get-together where we can share experiences and provide any feedback to the Apprenticeship Team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pearson plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Pearson's mission is all about helping learners worldwide, so it's no surprise that as an apprentice Pearson has been really keen to help me succeed on my apprenticeship and advance my development. There's a lot of opportunities for apprenticeships which aim to improve your career prospects, something that is so important to stand out in a competitive jobs market.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson plc?
  • Make sure you give your all when attending workshops or interviews as this is your time to shine and show why you deserve the role. It's important for you to ask questions and show your initiative. I think the most important thing is to remain confident, you should be proud of what you've achieved so far and willing to share that with the interviewer so they can see why your driven and why you want to take on an apprenticeship. Good luck!
