Uploading and resharing content to the Unilever site, communicating with stakeholders on issues they want resolved for Unilever.com, and generally maintaining the Unilever.com website.
Analytics and data pulling from Google Analytics has become a big part of my job - this has also meant that I have gained skills using Microsoft excel and presenting my findings. I have also developed my existing communications skills, working in a role in which I have to talk to new people everyday.
The work itself is interesting, and I love my team. I work in a division with lots of wonderful people who really nurture me as an apprentice and help me grow. The company culture is amazing too, with flexible working hours and super understanding people in management. The programme has exceeded my expectations.
My induction and onboarding was extremely well structured and made me feel assured and confident going into the role. The support from your line manager is a super important part of the job, so I've been really lucky with mine. Our weekly catch ups are extremely useful and well organised. Study has been amazing from the Unilever support side, but there have been a few issues with the training provider.
I feel I receive plenty of support from my line manager, who is very supportive both of my work, education and even personal life. The HR team is not one I have ever had to interact with, but from what I've heard from my peers they are also very supportive. Guidance with problems is always helpful and detailed.
The main course leader is wonderful. However individual lecturers are often very busy and not always able to support students as much as possible. I really enjoy the course itself and learning more about such fascinating subject. The general attitude towards support is that it is available but it might be a bit rushed.
What we learnt at University definitely comes into play often at work. We have learnt about the key theories and academic concepts of communications, and sitting in a communications role this is obviously very accessible. I have put this theory into practise while working on various projects, and I feel i know much more about my job since starting the course.
There's definitely a wide range of social activities to get involved with outside of work, around both the apprentices and the colleagues in your team. I have become very close friends with a lot of my fellow apprentices and thoroughly enjoy the social side of the role. We also use the on site gyms lots.
Yes
Working in this role and being an apprentice at Unilever has really changed my life for the better. It's taught me incredible life skills and made me a more confident and well rounded person. The experiences I've had and friends I have made are invaluable, and receiving an amazing education on top of all this is just the best thing ever.
Definitely be yourself throughout the interview and application stages. I really let my true personality come through throughout this stage and later received feedback that part of my acceptance into the course was based on how passionate and authentic I seemed. Prepare for the interviews and assessment days by doing a bit of research on your chosen area of the business and Unilever itself
