  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Manager store assistants day to day, ensure pallets of stock are all worked. Ensure stock is rotated, date checkered and in-date. Make sure the store is in a good condition for the next day of trading (loose card taken off etc.) In charge of safe, making sure everyone has enough change in their tills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely improved my management skills, I am about to lead a team and manage people depending on their personalities. My time keeping skills have also improved, as I have to ensure staff are sticking to pallet times and working to deadlines.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my job thoroughly however I felt the apprenticeship program was too easy and didn’t require a lot of work. I would have preferred something a bit more challenging.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship trainer wasn’t very good. She often didn’t turn up and did not notify me of this. We managed to get quite a lot of work done during her visits however they were not very structured and I often had to come up with answers on the spot.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of support from my store managers over the years. They have offered me time to do my apprenticeship work during working hours as well as offering me time to work from home. I have received great training and am currently undergoing training to become an assistant manager.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer was very helpful during meeting however outside of our meeting she hardly ever contacted me. She wasn’t very helpful over emails or for calls. She occasionally didn’t turn up for meeting and would try and ring me during work when I was busy and didn’t have time to use the phone or didn’t have signal.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel I received a lot of new information from my apprenticeship work, such as the health and safety side of everything and well as all the information I received about discrimination and staff welfare. I have also learns a lot about retail law, such as The Consumer Rights Act.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I often play golf with work colleagues. We also occasionally go for a ‘staff night out’ or hold a Christmas party. I feel this is very important as it helps bond us as a team and I feel we all work better together because of it. I also believe because we are all friendly store assistant feel more comfortable coming to management with their issues.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for with great benefits, such as a very high rate of pay, 28 days paid holiday, and many other benefits such as the retail trust and discounts to the cinema or on cars. This job has given me the ability to be more independent, I have my own car and I am saving up for my own house.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Try to be confident in yourself. Show them you are able to work to time limits, are a team player and can work efficiently. Show that you are professional but able to speak about other issues. I would also say ensure you are able to work weekends as in retail that is a must.
