  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently creating job packs up with plans and job instructions so that myself and my colleagues can go to a requested site and carry out replacement streetlighting works or repairs for the customer. I am currently the point of contact in a call out situation to manage what team is sent to the call out and to organise traffic management or assistance from the council

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have recently earned about several management theory models and how/when to apply them in everyday situations to get the best out of the teams i work with and eventually go on to lead. I have also spent a lot of time understanding the heath and safety aspects from a management point of view

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program at the minute is very minimal due to covid 19 and i am not in a cohort or anything so its hard to bounce ideas off a group or person in a similar situation to myself but i prefer to sometimes crack on without others slowing me down so this does slightly work out to my advantage

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is hard to answer this as before covid 19 i had only 1 face to face meeting before she got put on furlough and had to hand over to a colleague. My new point of contact is very efficient though and has done all she can to keep me on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am lucky in that my boss and his boss are both fully understanding of my ambitions and are allowing me to do whatever courses i need to get there. They allow me all the time i need to crack on with work however i am not getting enough responsibilities yet to allow me to feel i can put the management theories i am learning into practice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • This is also had to answer due to covid 19 as before it started i had only had one face to face contact session. The lady i am working with now however is really supportive and ensures that i know that if i need any assistance she is happy to help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In the long term yes however at the minute i am carrying out management apprenticeship and not being given the opportunities to manage or lead the lads i work with due to the current structure. I do think in the long term it will help as there is a lot of research you do to help how to understand how to manage and lead.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, i am part of the rising stars group at eon which is effectively a group where you have greater networking opportunities and are also given more of a chance to see how the company works at a much greater level that what youi would normally get. you are also given more opportunities to upskill and develop

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Due to the large sector in which we operate in there are so many aspects of the company to be interested in whether it is on the tools or office based there is a lot to choose from. Due to the need to stay competitive eon are regularly trying to encourage colleagues to upskill

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • Eon are looking for motivated and outgoing people so make sure you have an understanding of how your life experiences can be used to benifit the business. For example if there have been times you have had to lead a project or school and what problems you encounted and how you got around the problems
