  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a junior my day to day is full of self paced training from HPE and QA. When on project, we can fill any variety of role. It depends on what the needs of the client and if they want an apprentice/junor to be carrying out sensitive or difficult roles. It could be from scheduler to project manager. We work in both the public and private sector.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • When working in my role I have learnt how to schedule and migrate data from one platform to another; how to use a SQL database and basic knowledge of powershell. I have developed my skills in presenting and general professional behaviour. I have gained certifications with microsoft upon successfully completing exams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work I receive is challenging, which keeps me engaged and learning whilst working. My team is very supportive of apprentices and always offers their time when it's available to help us out. The negative of the programme is pairing of work and Uni work. Sometimes it can be overbearing and go into your evenings and weekends - something we were told, but I never fully realised would happen.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There was a four week induction to the company and the organisation, which equipped me with the knowledge I felt I need to start working. After that I had another week induction into my team and what the had planned for myself which repeating some of the content but also clarified what I would be doing. The support received from my manager and mentors has been very beneficial. I have fortnightly 1:1 meetings with my manager and monthly calls with mentors. Studying is self-paced and so is down to my own prioritisation.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have regular calls with my manager where I can discuss anything I need to, whether it is worrys or just an update on what i've been up to since the last meeting. I have a "buddy" from my team, who is able to help with any other issues and gives me training todo as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a skills coach every other month to discuss the work I have done, in order to push us to complete our work based portfolios. I benefit from these as they remind and push me to complete this mandatory part of the course. I partake in modules, one over ten weeks, with two workshops. This gives us the knowledge to complete the assignments but not enough to retain all the knowledge, especially if it isn't used in my day to day.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Over the last two years I have completed six modules and am on my seventh. From these I feel that four have been relevant to my role. I am disappointed that a digital technology degree is involving chartered management modules into my learning, something I do not find interesting or relevant to my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! We have social events with the interns occasionally. There are many volunteer activities to join for many charities or even one you suggest. In my office, they offer events and classes such as yoga and massages to help keep employees active. We also have many networks for people to join such as the young careers committee, who help set up these events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The work environment is very friendly and supportive. I have learnt a lot whilst working here and never felt like an idiot for not knowing something. As an apprentice people understand if you don't know something and are very helpful to teach you, even offering their own time. Extra curricular activities are fun to be apart of.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Be articulate in interviews. Able to accept criticism. DON'T BLAG (they're experts). Remember to ask questions (e.g. what will be expected of you etc.) The application, interviews and assessment days were what you would expect. Make sure you are prepared for them and don't worry if you think you did badly in a question or activity.
