  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a business administrator and I work around 3 main areas: Functional Skills, Apprenticeships and the Young Apprentice Network. Each area allows me to use the Microsoft Suite, gaining confidence in using different tools and applications. I also communicate using the telephone, email and face to face contact.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had the opportunity to undertake many training programmes. I have taken part in technical training programmes such as Excel training which has improved my skill set. However, I have also taken part in training sessions such as Autism training which has improved my general awareness of the greater society.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy gaining new skills and meeting new people as I believe it helps my confidence. However, I like to be challenged as it provides me with a new opportunity to learn new skills which I believe sometimes my training programme lacks. Although, I am always offered opportunities to attend events and meetings to improve my confidence.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have set learning time, which I have a study day once every 2 weeks. I use this time to catch up on any of my assignments or reflexive accounts that need to be completed. As well as this I have a training day with my assessors once a month and also a self-supported study day. I always achieve my 20% off the job learning time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all of the relevant information that I am required to know. The correct documentation is also always completed, and the correct policies and procedures are also in place. I receive support from my employer as I have regular meetings to discuss my progress, and to ensure that I have new projects to complete.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am lucky that in my team, my assessors also work in the same team so if I ever need any help, they are only across the office. However, I feel that I always receive the correct amount of help from my assessor's and I can always contact them if I need.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Myself and another apprentice run the Young Apprentice Network at OUH. We get together quarterly to plan and run a session for the apprentices at OUH. We have ran 4 sessions now and we are learning how to develop and improve communication between the young apprentices. The sessions allow apprentices to come together to form friendships and also gain valuable information at the same time.
