  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technology consultant. The day to day basis of my role varies, and it can also depend on what project I attend. The main task of a TC is to provide technological solutions to companies around the UK/I. My last project was a Windows 10 migration across multiple OpCo's around the world, implementing a company wide Windows 10 image and collaboration platform.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication and technological skills have improved the most, due to my role including a lot of interaction from colleagues as well as customers. The company provide a lot of training courses both internally and externally, and developing professional skills is very easy within the workplace since you have to adapt quickly to the working environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is very diverse and interesting, you get involved in quite a lot of technologies, old and new. Most of the time, the job is rewarding and can generate a lot of knowledge within the IT sector. The people make the job, and in this job, it's very easy to ask questions and get talking to people about topics/info you don't understand.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme included a 3 week induction period, where we had talks from different areas/people of the business to gain a whole understanding of how HPE works. After, we went through the different systems and what they expect from us. They also gave us a mentor, and a buddy to help us along the way, and the support network is massive there and people will be willing to help out. The structure of the organisation changes quite a lot, but you also know the people in your team and what they do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer provides a lot of support and can answer any questions. HPE have an internal share point website with all information for employees, including a online IT support, and other HR members to help with anything. The manager and mentor is the people who support you the most, and most likely people you will be closer to, as well as close working colleagues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider is focused on us and how we are performing, and they always monitor our performance. Support is very easy to obtain since we have a skills coach to support us, and the online portal has all the content we need to complete the modules. The enjoyment depends on the topic and if it suits your interests.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Each module helps me understand the different working principles and core topics. Even if the module doesn't relate to work, it is still good for the core skills and logical thinking. The theories that are learnt within training can be put into some of the projects from the working environment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a lot of options for employees. HPE employees gain a volunteering day each month where they can volunteer anywhere of their choice to help out and meet new people. There's always company events and activities/presentations being hosted by different areas of the business around the offices and also offsite. Talk to the right people, and they can get you into social groups/activities you enjoy, e.g. football groups.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • HPE is a huge company, with a global presence and it is very successful. Working for a company like this is very rewarding and comes with many benefits. HPE care about your time/work life balance and can provide you a lot of opportunities to grow and move around positions in the future. Good first experience to develop professional skills and get used to the environment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Make sure you research the company, and know what they are about. Their 3 values are partner, innovate and act. HPE respect their values a lot. Don't take it too seriously during the interviews etc, because the interviewer is just a person too, but make sure you're professional and enthusiastic and even if you don't know much about the topic of the job you're applying for i.e. if you don't know much about IT, showing a willingness to learn and improve in a short period of time goes a long way. Finally, ask questions at the end of the interview about things in the company you would like to know.
