  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The Realtionship Support Manager (RSM) role consists of looking after a portfolio of clients for the bank and ensuring that their experience of the bank runs smoothly. Ensure mandates, contacts and accounts are up to date. transfer them onto internet banking and open accounts for them. We further loook as products and solutions which can help our client with their day to day banking or their long term deposists and lending.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed on my problem solving within this role. Also I have leanrt how to communicate in a proffesional enviornment and am of course still developing on that. I have also understood how to price for clients which is a good skill to have. I have developed my knowledge base as well on the clients I look after and the products the bank offers. I have further understood how to prioritise client information.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my program as it allowed me to develop both personally and proffesionally. As well as having my foot in the door with an amaxing business I have also had the oppertunity to work with The London Institue of Banking and Finance and get a degree with them. I have also enjoyed the travelling to london for my degree and meeting plently of new people on the program. It also enabld me to move up north for a while which meant i was able to have the indepence from living away from home.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the program could be better organised espesially with communication between the university and the apprentiechip team. Also the apprentiechip team seemed to lack in communication with the apprentices which could be imporved on. However, it was well structured in the rotation periods and the university course itself. Also with the multiple job chnages in that team it was fairly well delat with but there could have been a better handover.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve a lot of support from my managers who are happy for me to take my study day a week as they know I also do my job. The also support me if i do have a lot on and check up on me when it is busy and I have an exam or assignment soon. My RD and team are also extreamly helpfula dn support me with asisgnments and time that i need extra.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received a decent amount of support. I think they do really want you to do your best. However they should be monitoring the tutors as you have a different one for each module so the standards bar is forever chnaging. But they are clear on what you need to pass and if you ahve any questions they are extremaly helpful where they can be.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that understanding the theory of the banking practice helps me apply this to my knowledge of my every day duties. espesially in the RSM role and it will do when i want to climb up the ladder. The qualification also helped me understand areas that i didnt before.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I don't really get involved too much in social activites as it is difficult as I live over an hour away from the office. MaiI mainly get involved in the career days as these are noemally aimed at apprentices and any activities with fraud events as i elieve these are good to get involved with being a aprt of the community.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recoomend Barclays because they are an amazing orginisation whcih looks after it people and helps them develop into different roles. I believe they would like to appeal to the younger genration of bankers with the apprenticeship program which can inspire one to go any direction in the bank. there are also a lot of opperntunities in Barclays which means that you could go anywhere. But overall the people are amaozng and everyone wants to help one another.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • My advise would be: - Make sure that you are a postive confident person - ensure that you like team work - Keep up to date with banking trends - if going for a management role ensure you have a leadership ability of helping others and the bank. - Always stick to the Values of Barclays RISES - Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship.
