  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am the admin for a team of around 50 lawyers and 6 personal assistants. This involves creating bundles either hardcopy or via workshare to be sent to court or experts, filing, archiving and any other admin task that needs doing. Photocopying, scanning, sorting out inbound post, updating the case management system.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills a lot as I have had to get used to interacting with many different people on a daily basis, I have also developed my time management skills as this job involves meeting deadlines so I had to learn how to prioritise my work. I have learnt new skills such as how to use Outlook, Workshare and many other IT based platforms.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work most of the time. It can get quite repetitive and I feel as if I'm not having to challenge myself much some days. Once you have learnt the day to day tasks there isn't many opportunities to expand that learning. But overall it has been a good experience. You have to start somewhere and this has definitely given me valuable experience. The actual learning of the apprenticeship is ok, but I don't like the fact that it is all done virtually. It makes it less enjoyable as it is harder to focus via a webinar for 4 hours straight with only one or two breaks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is fairly well organised. We were given a sheet with all the dates of webinars and tests etc. and as a whole these were pretty accurate and happened when they should have. However towards the end of the programme there were a few webinars that just didn't happen and there was no warning before hand that these weren't going to be happening

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my employer. My manager has been super supportive throughout the whole thing, making sure I always got my one study day a week and supporting me with any help or guidance I needed throughout the programme. My manager has always been very understanding of all the webinars that I have had to attend making sure that even if work is busy there is someone to cover me so that I don't miss it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received a fair amount of support. It has been quite up and down but on a whole quite supportive. If I ever have any questions my coach is always there to answer them. My monthly catch up calls have also been very helpful in terms of making sure I am on track with my missions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't think it helps too much to be honest. It is good to have the extra knowledge but in my current job role I don't feel like it really helps me to perform better. Other than the fact of when it came to carrying out a project. Then it helped me to perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend DWF Law LLP to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because there is no progression. It is a great experience and I have learnt a lot of valuable skills and met a lot of great people but as there is no opportunity to progress in my role. Also as I mentioned earlier the role is very much the same everyday and once you have learnt all the tasks that need to be done there isn't much more to it. So if someone is looking to stay with in the company I wouldn't recommend but if they want some experience to start them of then it would be ok.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DWF Law LLP?
  • Just have a positive attitude, you don't need to have a load of experience to apply but make sure you have good time management skills because that is the key part of the role. There are so many deadlines to meet throughout the day so just making sure that these are met.
