  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently completing L3 BTEC and L2 PEO work at college. Making sure all assignments meet the deadlines and that i pass the courses in order to progress to a NVQ L3.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt electrical fitting and maintenance. Lernt how to produce drawings by hand and using CAD. Learnt about 3 phase motors. Developed my maths, physics, communication and team working skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme thoroughly. Even more so now that I am close to entering phase 2 of the programme and begin work based training in the workplace.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised. The timings for the programme allows enough time for each course to be completed. The structure allows needed skills to be learnt first which will help with the nex phase of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve a great amount of support. My manager conducts a weekly meeting with our cohort to see how we are doing and update us on the company. College reviews with my manager are conducted every 4-6 weeks.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I recieve a great amount of support my training provider are always around to helping they are free. They also send us presentations and handouts to help us with our work. College reviews are conducted every 4-6 weeks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the qualification does help me as I have a better understanding of electrical fitting and maintenance, as well as the maths and physics behind engineering and how I would possibly have to use the maths and physics for problems in an engineering workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our work place has a on site gym which anyone in the workplace can get a membership and use. Weekly sessions with the apprenticeship team are held at the gym. Alumni events are arranged to allow us to network.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Great employer as the constantly support their apprentices. Multiple different qualifications will be obtained throughout the course which include L3 BTEC diploma, L2 PEO, L4 HNC and an NVQ L3.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
  • The course may seem compact and that there is little time for completion but there is plenty of time. I would advise dont worry take your time in getting your assignments correct. Trainers will set deadlines and guidance which will help you complete the course.
