  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In the first year, it is working at college every day and studying a BTEC Level 3. In the second year, we are in work based placements, but every 2 months we have 2 weeks of studying a HNC. In the third year it is the same as the second year.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is well orginised and laid out. From day one, they give you a plan of what will happen when and will inform you instantly. We keep to a weekly timetable that tells us what is when in college and a time table for work when the college is closed in half terms.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This qualification really helps you to perform better in your role. This is because it re-teaches you school knowledge you may have forgotten, as well as expanding on top of it to give a better understanding and applying it to real life situations you may need at some point in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In the first year, I have been in networking events and have visited a school to advertise the apprenticeship to the younger members of the community that are thinking of what to do when they leave school. In the second and third year, you get to do this more and there is sporting activities every week after work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Defence Equipment & Support to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This apprenticeship has a lovely sense of community. It is full of support and has a really good atmosphere and feel. It pays well and puts you in a good position after the apprenticeship for a higher up job in the future. I could not ask for a better group of people and supervisors/teachers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Defence Equipment & Support?
  • Do not panic! Keep calm in the interview. Stay calm but get your ideas out there in the team building day. If the projects in the team building day do not work, do not worry! It is okay if they break. Its about how you act with others rather than the succeeding.
