  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We have different placements every six months but my current placement involves me designing and developing RPAs that automate processes within the bank. I also have to meet with the business area throughout the process to ensure the app is doing what it should do.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved my communication skills as I have to lead meetings on a daily basis. I have also learnt different coding languages and developed ones I knew already. I’ve also learnt how to work as a team effectively in order to complete tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program a lot as I’m still getting the university degree I wanted while also gaining knowledge of working life and how to apply what I’ve learnt at university to everyday work tasks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is really well structured as we change placements ever six months to get a feel of all the roles that work with our degree in order for us to better understand what we want to do once we’ve finished.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employer has a dedicated team to helping apprentices with any issues they may have both in work and in university. This helps as we always know who to go to with any problems.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We’ve recently changed training provider to ntu who have so far been helpful with helping us getting our degree.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The programming languages we learn are languages that developers in the company which help me to quickly start working in new teams.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Santander ask us to take part in community days which involve us helping with projects in the local community such as painting schools etc. We also have different charity events we can take part in such as football and games days.

  • Yes

  • Because it is a good way to get a degree while learning valuable skills and earning money at the same time

  • To be yourself through the application process as they’re looking for people who will fit in well with the program
