  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Equip the business with the tools, knowledge and support to be operationally ready for Smart, the DCC, and SMETS2 (SPAYG & Credit). This involves creating and delivering Ask? content, customer guides, business communications, analysis, presentations and training. I identify risks & opportunities in these tasks through research & using the RACI framework and provide recommendations & solutions to support the ‘win at smart’ objectives, drive a positive smart culture, and meet the Business Readiness Plan delivery dates and wider Smart mandate. Support the wider team and operation with the creation, delivery & embedding of projects through fact finding, analysis, and engagement.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have learned different soft skills and technical skills. Within project management these include:- • Governance • Stakeholder and communication management • Budgeting and cost control • Business case and benefits • Scope management • Consolidated planning • Schedule management • Collaboration and teamwork • Contract management and procurement • Quality management • Resource management • Effective and appropriate communication • Risk and issue management • Context • Leadership • Drive for results

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot. It provides me with a much needed challenge from my day-to-day job allowing me to complete a number of activities and eventually gaining a qualification. The tutors are supporting and the course content is relevant to me gaining new skills and succeeding in my role

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and structured. I know exactly how many modules there are, what the modules are, and when the modules are going to be delivered. I've also been given a clear overview of the assessment criteria and how i need to prepare and what i need to learn to succeed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer encouraged me to apply for the course and supports my development. I'm given time to work on my apprenticeship, without being micromanaged, and my line manager is there for support when i need it. I would like to be involved in more projects to support the off-the-job learning

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As well as facilitating workshops (online at the moment due to covid-19), we have a catch up every 2 weeks as well as a monthly 121. I also receive regular emails checking in and am kept updated when i need to be. My line manager has been updated to my first 121.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It allows me to see gaps in current project management within my company and helps me visualise the improvements i could implement, if given the opportunity. As someone in a support function, most of my work is project based so this course will be the ideal platform to boost my role capabilities.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • These are perhaps not encouraged as well as they could be, however some do exist. There are opportunities to be involved in extra activities, however this is dependent on my current work load. More people need to lead on this in order for it to be encouraged and more successful.

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They have a good strategy and care about customers. The pay is also reasonable and most people who work there are nice to work with. I think the company could benefit from having more opportunities and work with Ofgem to create transparency between what the customer needs to know and what we need to tell them on a call, in terms of compliance.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • Think about your weaknesses and emphasise how you can overcome them with development opportunities. Be honest and ask for help if you want to do a better job. if you lack the technical skills or experience to work in the energy industry, consider what soft skills you could apply instead
