  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is based around supporting Account Handlers across the whole of the Ipswich Aerospace Team. I conduct a variety of different tasks which benefit the Account Handlers and ultimately our clients. This involves working on renewals throughout the year, checking for quality management and other support tasks. Everyday is different, this is due to the vast amount of Handlers that we assist across Aerospace on different accounts. Most days I also have training and everyday I learn something new which shall help me persue my career in Aviation Insurance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely. This is one of the things that I have always been exposed from day one at WTW. My role and the department that I work in has allowed me to develop communication skills to a new level - mainly due to the variety of people that are in out team in Ipswich. My telephone skills have dramatically improved as well, both socially and professionally when dealing with different people across the company. My IT skills have also increased far beyond I thought they would be able to do, along with my innovative and analytical skills - these have developed due to the different tasks that I am exposed to on a day to day basis and the study towards my exams. I ma certain that my skills will continue to develop throughout my career at WTW.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much so in a nutshell! The other apprentices in both my department and across this years intake come from all different backgrounds and we all seem to get along incredibly well. This helps with exam workshops and socially as we interact more and help each other when needed. In terms of work in my department - I have an incredibly good management team which has supported both myself and the two other apprentices in the department from this years intake. They always strive to expose us to new tasks and challenges which have developed our skills and knowledge around insurance at a very impressive rate. The balance of studying and my job role is also very well done. Having external trainers come in to support us with the exams is extremely useful - as well as being given time at work to study when needed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well - as mentioned above we have time to both study and obviously do our work. We are given time to study with workshops and with study days near exams. The progress of our apprenticeship has been laid our very clearly and we have been given and have been showed the support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • This is one of the best thing about our apprenticeship at WTW. We have mentors and buddy's in place which support us wherever needed. This is also shown with our line manger who has helped with the progression of our job role as well as exams and making sure that we are all up to date with training etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • This is mentioned above but with the workshops and easy email access has allowed us to develop in a exam situation very well. The lectures are very interactive and help with the explaining of complex tasks when we have to study them. Even at the moment with the Covid-19 situation, workshops are still going ahead which is very reassuring.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that they both go hand in hand with my job role and exam study. The content we study is seen in our job role which helps with the understanding, and vise versa. The exams help develop various skills as well which have helped with the learning of new tasks that we have been learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have many professional networking events that occur during lunchtime, in the evenings or online - these can be presentations from external visitors or from different people across the business. There are also various clubs which you can get involved in. The networking events has allowed me to get a feel of different business areas which can be used to support my role in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a significant amount of support for transitioning from school to work. The apprenticeship itself is very positive in terms of what you can learn, but also lays out the steps to having a very successful career in insurance. WTW also has a large global presence meaning that opportunities can open up around the world.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • Be yourself! Especially in my team we all get along extremely well, both in and out of the office. This helps massively with the progression of your role and your career in insurance. Another big thing I would say for people to do is get some experience beforehand. This helps massively with applying to the role, it shows that you are determined to succeed and have passion for the role.
