  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my day to day role includes dealing with clients and meeting their demands and needs. I also speak to underwriters to get terms for contracts and liase with them about premiums. I also assist my manager with auditing within the team and ensuring we do not get BQM failures. I assist my ipswich and London team with their accounts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to work being client faced and ways of communicating with underwriters and clients to get the best terms and premiums. I have learnt about the best type of communication to be used for different occasions and which is best with the positives and negatives of each.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my day to day role with learning how to deal with different types of clients. I would like more of my own accounts as currently I do a lot of the auditing for my team and I would like to get more involved on the client side of things.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I do not feel the apprenticeship has been organised well. We have workshops with start before our contracted working hours. My skills coach also left the company after 1 meeting and my new skills coach has said she will not be available until June which will stall my apprenticeship and the grading profile.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is very helpful and supportive and is always there for me when I need it. However I do not feel like I have been supported much on the side of exams and with my grading profile from the growth company as talked about with my skills coach not being available so I can move level with this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I felt like for LM1 and LM2 my tutor was very good and made the sessions fun and productive. When I needed extra support on a topic my tutor stayed with me to speak through it which I found very helpful. My training provider has not supported me as much on the side of the growth company with my skills coach being too busy for our meetings.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • By studying LM1 and LM2, I felt these highly assisted me within my role because a lot of what I learnt in those books assisted me in the understanding of how business is run in my day to day role. I am now learning M92 and do not think this helps me in my role as much as LM1 and LM2.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is social events which I have attended. There is a running club at my work also. There is professional networking events and they do these as a 'lunch and learn' where you attend during lunch time, have your lunch provided whilst learning at elements in the work place or the insurance sector.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe it is a good stepping stone for a career. I like how they pay for your exams and give you time to attend workshops during work hours. By getting qualifications, I believe it helps towards the future for what I decide to go into whether that is insurance or something else.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • I would say, that it is a lot of hard work, you need to be prepared to put in the hours for your exams and coursework as these require time and effort to be passed. I would say it is a good company to work for, offering many benefits and a good company to start a career.
