  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • 10 days were spent working towards our Chartered Management Institute Team leadership Qualification. This meant we completed tasks that revolved around Pitching to senior members of the firm, team challenges such as Dragon's Den and such and them we would report what we had spent our time doing and what skills it had taught us in our learning logs. 5 days were spent doing actual work exepreince in the office.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • There was a lot of opportunity to practise your public speaking skills in front of at least 10 people at a time. Also they gave us quite a bit of interview practise, spent time teaching us how to formulate emails and the language you should utilise. At the end i left with a CMI Level 2 Team Leadership Qualification which I since included in my UCAS applications and CV.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • Overall, I know it was good experience for me in terms of what i learnt and took away from it, however at times it can be a bit tedious when it comes to learning logs, as the tasks can be quite repetitive in nature and sometimes it's difficult to find something new to write about.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • It was very well organised we would have a pair on new people lead our session every few days. They always planned in advance what it was we would be doing that day. they ensured we had an induction day, where we were all given company laptops and secure login details and company emails and the like.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • we learnt a lot about the company culture as we spent 5 days actually working at desks next to staff in their open office space. No one has a specific desk you can work were you like as long as it is a free space. someone is always near by to ask for help.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • it helped me figure out that i really don't want to pursue a career that would lead to me being an office working, every one was really nice but i didn't really enjoy it (personally). Although people are around to as for help, I didn't really like how little contact you actually had with people despite being so close to others.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • They reimbursed my travel every single day up until our pay day, which was the better part of three weeks as i traveled over an hour to get in each day. and they did that pretty much everyone in our cohort. on top of this we were paid £6.21/hr. They also provided lunch every if you didn't want to go out, and they ordered dominos fpr us on our last day!

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great opportunity to work on your own skills even if you don't want/intend to go into this area as a future career. The Qualification you leave with is also a bonus as it sets you apart from your peers, you don't have anything to lose especially as it is paid AND they are willing reimburse travel.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • it was a pretty simple process but try to have as many examples of hard work, team work etc for the phone interview. Try to practice as many scenario questions as you can as they will ask you a few of them. Don't stress at the length of the interview as it only about 10 - 15 minutes long.
