Consultants Review

My job title is Retirement Consultant. My daily tasks consist of handling data, manipulating spreadsheets and contacting external parties. Internally I mix with a wide range of people. I work with actuaries on a daily basis, along with the investment team. Externally, I deal with third party administrators, clients, and Trustees.

Since being with Aon I have both gained and developed new skills. I am currently working towards the Pension Manager Institute exams (PMI) which will get me my offical qualification for becoming a consultant. I have already sat and pass my Customer Service exams and have only been here 4 months. I have developed my social, work ethic, and excel skills all whilst being at Aon. I am positive in the future I will have further opportunites to develop and gain new valubable skills.

Being an apprentice at Aon is not what you would expect. When I first joined I thought it would be slow, not much work, or trust to give you work. I was completly wrong. My team are amazing and made me fit in with ease and I loved it from the first day. There is so much potential especially being part of such as big organisation as Aon.

As stated above, my conception of how an apprentice would be treated was completly wrong. Everyone is willing to take you under their wing as they know they can make you into the best possible employee.

My programme is very organised. It balances work with learning extremley well. Everything you need to pass the exams is easily available also.

Every month we meet with our training provider so we get plenty of support.

The support you recieve from Aon and your team is great. They walk you through tasks and understand that your new to the industry. I have been here four months and they still understand if i don't understand something!

I travel by car into my office in St Albans (I live near stansted). For me the wage is great. However, if you are wishing to move out once you get this job, you may have to wait a few years before doing so. On a plus side Aon are very genrous in bonuses, pay rises etc!

There are many opportunities outside of work with my office. There are multiple social events during the week, with external training sessions also available.

Choosing Aon over university was the best choice i've ever made. Not only am I earning a good wage, I am in a career which I hope to be in for many years to come.

During the interview process be your self. They ask more generic questions about you (ie give an example when you have had to deal with a unruly customer). I would also STRONGLY advise that you touch up on your excel skills, as a lot of work includes excel. I am not excel wizz, however i would have been a huge benefit if I understood it before hand!
