  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I shadow and assist the commercial team with their tasks and then I am given my own responsibility to help pay the subcontractors that are employed on site.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely built my confidence by working with a variety of different people on site and in college. My team building skills have also developed whilst working on site with other colleagues because we need to maintain progress of the work so we all have to work together. I believe that my IT skills have also developed drastically.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme because when on site you're not always sat in the office you can go on site walks to complete part of your work. I also like how the programme is structured so that we have college blocks throughout the year with the other apprentices.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured to give you the best possible experience during the apprenticeship programme. This is because we have college blocks throughout the year to complete our courses and then we work on site for the rest of the year to gain a better more hands-on experience.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support during our apprenticeship programme. For example when we are working on site we assigned a line manager who we can report to for help with our work or if we have any other problems when on site. We also have an apprenticeship manager that we can report to for help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a lot of support from our training provider whilst at college and on site. For example when we are completing a college block the tutors are always happy to with any assignments. As well as this, we complete skype tutorials with our tutors while on site t help complete individual projects away from college.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our training provider definitely helps us within our roles on site because it gives us a really in depth overview of the background knowledge of construction therefore we can understand the tasks that are being completed on site whilst we are working. This is useful because we understand what we need to quantify if we are working on a cost estimate.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of things to get involved in at work. For example, When we were finishing work for Christmas the whole apprenticeship team went for a Christmas meal together, which was organised by BAM. On top of this, some of the apprentices signed up to a five-a-side league whilst we were at college.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAM to a friend because it is a very well structured programme that allows you to gain all the qualifications that you need and it offers a lot of support whilst completing the apprenticeship and it is also a good way to meet new people whilst working on site and at college.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • The main tips and advice that I would offer to anyone whos that is applying for BAM is just to be yourself, enjoy yourself and don't worry about it. The programme is set out very well to make sure that you complete all the qualifications that you need to progress in this industry.
